Non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers (CCBs), including diltiazem and verapamil, inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4), an enzyme involved in the metabolism of hydrocodone, the most commonly used opioid in the United States (US). This study evaluated whether concomitant use of hydrocodone with CYP3A4-inhibiting CCBs increases the risk of opioid overdose compared to use of hydrocodone with amlodipine, a CCB that does not inhibit CYP3A4. Using three US databases (2000-2021), two cohorts were identified: (1) hydrocodone initiation while on CCB; and (2) CCB initiation while on hydrocodone.

With the rapid development of the radiotheranostic field, developing new methods to produce radiolabeled agents has become a critical area of exploration. We hypothesized that the inert carbon shell of carbon dots (CDs) could serve as a robust chelation strategy to overcome the stability issue of radiometal complexes, including the recoil energy issue of alpha (α)-emitting radioisotopes. Objectives: Multimorbidity is the presence of two or more chronic health conditions. Tuberculosis (TB) survivors are known to have higher prevalence of multimorbidity, although prevalence estimates from high-income low-TB incidence jurisdictions are not available and potential differences in the patterns of chronic disease among TB survivors with multimorbidity are poorly understood. In this study, we aimed to (1) compare the prevalence of multimorbidity among TB survivors with matched non-TB controls in a high-income setting; (2) assess the robustness of aim 1 analyses to different modelling strategies, unmeasured confounding, and misclassification bias; and (3) among people with multimorbidity, elucidate chronic disease patterns specific to TB survivors.

Point-of-care (POC) tests to detect SARS-CoV-2 antibodies offer quick assessment of serostatus after natural infection or vaccination. We compared the field performance of the BioMedomics COVID-19 IgM/IgG Rapid Antibody Test against an ELISA in 303 participants enrolled in a SARS-CoV-2 household cohort study. The nationwide opioid crisis continues to affect not only people who use opioids but also communities at large by increasing the risk of accidental occupational exposure to illicit opioids. In addition, the emergence of highly potent synthetic opioids such as fentanyl and carfentanil increases the need to protect workers who may encounter unknown drug substances during job activities. To support the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Opioids Research Gaps Working Group, we examined the state of the literature concerning methods to protect workers against accidental occupational exposure to illicit opioids, and have identified unmet research needs concerning personal protective equipment, decontamination methods, and engineering controls.
