This cross-sectional study aimed to explore the association between tinnitus and menstrual cycle disorders in premenopausal women. A total of 558 participants completed a comprehensive questionnaire covering demographics, tinnitus, and gynecological/obstetric history. The analysis investigated the correlation between tinnitus and various menstrual disorders, including dysmenorrhea (primary, secondary, or premenstrual syndrome), as well as different menstrual cycle patterns (regular, hypomenorrhea, menorrhagia, oligomenorrhea, or polymenorrhea).

Purpose: Olfaction plays a vital role in regulating nutrition, avoiding potentially dangerous situations, and modulating behavior along with interpersonal relationships. Many common disorders can have a negative impact on olfaction; one of these is obesity. Bariatric surgery induces weight loss, and current evidence suggests that it can cause improvement in olfaction.

Oral-facial-digital (OFD) syndromes are a heterogeneous group of congenital disorders characterized by malformations of the face and oral cavity, and digit anomalies. Mutations within 12 cilia-related genes have been identified that cause several types of OFD, suggesting that OFDs constitute a subgroup of developmental ciliopathies. Through homozygosity mapping and exome sequencing of two families with variable OFD type 2, we identified distinct germline variants in INTS13, a subunit of the Integrator complex.

Article Synopsis
  • Vitamin D is crucial for body functions, particularly in calcium absorption and immune system regulation, and this study focuses on its link to recurrent acute tonsillitis in children.
  • Researchers found that children with recurrent tonsillitis had significantly lower vitamin D levels compared to healthy controls, with a Poisson regression analysis indicating that higher vitamin D levels correlated with fewer tonsillitis episodes.
  • The study concludes that vitamin D deficiency is linked to increased rates of recurrent tonsillitis and suggests that future research should explore the potential benefits of vitamin D supplementation to reduce these episodes.

Tinnitus is a well-known pathological entity in clinical practice. However, the pathophysiological mechanisms behind tinnitus seem to be elusive and cannot provide a comprehensive understanding of its pathogenesis and clinical manifestations. Hence, in the present study, we explore the mathematical model of ions' quantum tunneling to propose an original pathophysiological mechanism for the sensation of tinnitus.

Total serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) is elevated in multiple allergic diseases and is considered a good predictor of atopy. Several studies have been performed on the association of IgE levels with the polymorphism of the gene in asthmatic patients. The aim of this study was to determine whether there is an association between IgE levels and the genetic polymorphisms of the gene (T1, T2, T + 1, V4, S1, S2, and Q-1) in both healthy and asthmatic patients among Jordanians.

Background And Objectives: Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) is an emerging disease threatening the world with a rapid increase in cases and deaths since it was first identified in December 2019. Adequate knowledge, practice, and attitudes (KPA) toward COVID-19 among physicians at the frontline defense against the COVID-19 pandemic may enhance their ability to avoid the risk of self-infection, decrease mortality, and provide adequate medical care service in this pandemic. This study aimed to assess KPA toward COVID-19 among physicians in Jordan and Palestine.

Background And Objective: X-ray repair cross-complementing group1 (XRCC1) is a key protein in base excision repair and closely associated with the coordination of the base excision repair pathway. Many studies have focused on XRCC1 SNPs and have shown an associated between these SNPs and the risk of several types of cancers, including head and neck cancer. There are many single nucleotide polymorphisms XRCC1 gene (SNPs) and the most common SNP that result in amino acid substitutions is exon 10 (Arg399Gln).

Female patients with bladder cancer (BCa) have had more advanced disease than their male counterparts at diagnosis and have experienced worse oncologic outcomes. However, the effect of gender on the chemotherapeutic response and oncologic outcomes after radical cystectomy (RC) and perioperative chemotherapy remains to be elucidated. We performed a systematic literature search to identify eligible studies that had investigated the effect of gender on the chemotherapeutic response and oncologic outcomes after RC and perioperative chemotherapy.
