Objective: Sorcin, a signaling molecule, has recently emerged as a significant focus within cancer research. This study aimed to compare histopathology results with serum sorcin level and tissue sorcin immunohistochemical expression in patients who underwent radical prostatectomy (RP). Methods: A total of 81 patients who underwent RP between December 2017 and June 2019 due to prostate cancer (PCa) and had not received any previous treatment were included in the study.

Background: Urotensin-II (U-II), a somatostatin-like cyclic undecapeptide has been the center of many studies due to its effect both on physiological and pathophysiological regulation of many diseases. Recently, U-II has been implicated in the development of breast cancer through its mitogenic and angiogenic actions. Over the years, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the Urotensin II (UTS2) gene, notably rs2890565 (S89N, 3836 C > G/T) and rs228648 (T21M, 143G > A), have been identified.

Retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) is a widely used minimally invasive technique for renal stone management. Recently, flexible navigable vacuum-assisted ureteral access sheaths (FV-UASs) have been introduced to enhance RIRS outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of FV-UAS compared with traditional UAS (T-UAS) in RIRS, with a specific focus on the impact of hydronephrosis.

Objective: Muscle invasion in bladder cancer is a crucial factor influencing treatment decisions and prognosis. We hypothesize that the integration of tumor shape characteristics with the VI-RADS scoring system improves the predictive accuracy for assessing muscle invasion in bladder cancer.

Methods: This prospective observational study included patients scheduled for transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) and/or cystectomy due to suspected bladder cancer between March 2022 and November 2024.

Purpose: To compare the external validation of four existing scoring systems for encrusted ureteral stents (EUS) and their relationship with stent indwelling time, stone-free rates, multiple surgery sessions, multimodal procedures, and prolonged operation times exceeding 120 minutes in total.

Materials And Methods: The data of 208 patients who underwent surgery for EUS reviewed. All EUSs were evaluated with 4 scoring systems: ESB (encrusted stone burden), FECal (forgotten, encrusted, calcified), KUB (kidney, ureter and bladder), V-GUES (visual grading for ureteral stone burden).

Objective: Given the increasing significance of digital health literacy (DHL) and health literacy (HL) in promoting informed decision-making and healthy behaviors, this study aimed to assess the influence of self-reported HL and DHL on treatment adherence and quality of life among patients who underwent transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TUR-BT) for primary non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC).

Materials & Methods: This single-center observational study involved patients who underwent TUR-BT for NIMBC at a tertiary hospital from May 2022 to February 2024. Before the procedure, the patients' DHL and HL were evaluated using the European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire short version and the eHealth Literacy Scale.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the impact of preoperative stenting on surgical outcomes and complications in patients with bilateral ureteric stones, specifically assessing its role in reducing the need for subsequent interventions.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted at a tertiary center over eight years, involving 82 patients with bilateral ureteric stones. Patients were divided into two groups: Group 1 (no preoperative stenting) and Group 2 (preoperative stenting).

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of the symptoms of the Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction Research Network Symptom Index-29 (LURN SI-29) questionnaire in assessing alpha-blocker treatment response in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS).

Methods: This prospective, non-randomized, multicentre trial included males with LUTS who visited urology outpatient clinics between January and April 2023. The most employed LUTS questionnaire is the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), while the LURN SI-29 was also utilized.

Aims: The aim of the study was to analyze the cut-off value for the percentage of the high-grade (HG) component that has clinical significance in urothelial carcinoma (UC).

Material And Methods: The study included a total of 362 patients, mixed-grade UC (MGUC) patients were classified as Combine Group (CG) 1 based on the presence of less than 5% HG areas. High-grade papillary UC (HGPUC) patients were grouped based on HG component proportions: CG2 (≥5%-<50% HG), CG3 (≥50%-<100% HG), and pure HGPUC (PHGPUC) for 100% HG components.

Purpose: MRI-based VI-RADS score aids in differentiating MIBC and NMIBC, but the experience's impact remains unexplored. We aimed to determine the effect of accumulating experience in the diagnostic performance of VI-RADS.

Methods: In our previously published series 71 primary bladder cancer patients who underwent multiparametric MRI before the transurethral resection were analyzed.

Article Synopsis
  • Urinary system injuries can occur during gynecological and obstetrical surgeries, leading to serious complications, and this study reviews such injuries from four centers between January 2018 and October 2023.
  • A total of 328 patients were examined, revealing that 69.2% suffered from iatrogenic bladder injuries and 30.8% from iatrogenic ureteral injuries, primarily diagnosed during surgery.
  • The findings highlight that bladder injuries were more common than ureter injuries, especially during cesarean sections, emphasizing the need for early detection and intervention to avoid long-term complications.

Retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) is the recommended treatment for renal stones up to two cm in size. As digital health literacy (e-HL) has become increasingly important in promoting informed health decisions and healthy behaviors, it is necessary to investigate its impact on RIRS treatment outcomes. We aimed to explore the influence of patients' e-HL level on their postoperative quality of life (QoL).

Introduction: We aimed to evaluate the status of spermatogenesis detected by histological examination of non-tumoral testicular tissues in tumor bearing testis and its association with advanced stage disease.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients with testicular germ cell tumors (TGCTs) that undergone radical orchiectomy. All non-tumoral areas of the orchiectomy specimens were examined for the status of spermatogenesis.

Objective: To assess various management options for renal angiomyolipoma (AML) to guide clinical practice.

Methods: A single center retrospectively reviewed an AML series from 2002 to 2022. The image reports and chart reviews of patients who received two abdominal scans at least 6 months between the first and last scans were assessed.

Purpose: The importance of health literacy (HL) and digital health literacy (e-HL) in promoting healthy behavior and informed decision making is becoming increasingly apparent. This study aimed to assess the effects of HL and e-HL on the quality of life (QoL) of men who underwent radical prostatectomy (RP) for localized prostate cancer.

Materials And Methods: This prospective observational study included 104 patients who underwent RP for localized prostate cancer.

Purpose: Although it is known that alpha-adrenergic receptor antagonists have positive effects on metabolic parameters such as glucose metabolism, lipid profile, and insulin sensitivity, it is unclear whether this is a class effect. Tamsulosin is reported to have adverse effects on glucose metabolism and insulin resistance, and this may be because of its lack of glycolysis-enhancing effect compared with other alpha-adrenergic receptor antagonists with glycolysis-enhancing effects such as doxazosin, terazosin, and alfuzosin. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of tamsulosin on metabolic parameters with another alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist, doxazosin.
