Objectives: The advent of massively parallel next-generation sequencing (MP-NGS) offers potential advantages over sequential molecular profiling (SMP) in the management of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study compares the two methodologies using samples obtained through endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA), focusing on actionable mutation detection, turnaround time (TAT), and clinical outcomes.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on NSCLC patients who underwent EBUS-TBNA and molecular characterization between January 2020 and December 2023.
Objectives: To analyze the incidence of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), lethality and mortality of Brazilian pregnant and postpartum women infected with SARS-CoV-2, before and after vaccination against Covid-19.
Methods: This is an ecological study of time series, carried out with secondary data from the Brazilian Ministry of Health, from March 2020 to April 2024. Slopes and trend changes in the time series were identified by Mann-Kendall and generalized fluctuation tests, respectively.
: Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of female mortality worldwide, but significant racial and socioeconomic disparities persist in disease outcomes. This review aimed to analyze racial and socioeconomic inequalities in mortality and survival from breast cancer, identifying the impact of social risk factors on access to diagnosis and treatment. : A systematic literature review and meta-analysis was performed following PRISMA guidelines.

The objective of this study is to analyze and compare the screening, diagnosis and treatment of breast and cervical cancer in the pre-COVID period and during the COVID-19 period.
Methods: Cross-sectional study with secondary data collected from the Mortality Information System (SIM), Hospital Information System (SIH), Ambulatory Information System (SIA) and the Oncology Panel (PO) of breast cancer notifications with ICD C50.
Background/objectives: Locoregional therapy (LRT) might impel hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) to exhibit different phenotypes by modulating tumoral cell adaptation. HCCs presurgically treated with LRT were studied, focusing on stemness and mesenchymal features.
Methods: Clinicopathological and immunohistochemical data (Ki67, p53, EpCAM, CK19, CK7, ASMA and vimentin expression) were considered in 89 HCC nodules (30 treated with LRT; 59 non-treated), comprising 46 liver transplanted/surgically resected patients.
How locoregional therapy (LRT) may change tumor compositional and functional heterogeneity, consequently contributing to treatment resistance and tumor recurrence remains largely unknown. A series of hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) treated with preoperative locoregional therapy (LRT) that relapsed after surgery was studied. Thirty HCCs comprising 15 patients treated with LRT prior to liver transplantation (n = 14)/surgical resection (n = 1) were studied.

Situations of mistreatment in the academic environment are prevalent worldwide, but research in this area is scarce in middle-low-income countries. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of mistreatment inflicted against Brazilian medical students. In addition, characterize these situations and analyze their consequences.

Herein, the expression of the onco-target nucleolin in patient-derived pulmonary carcinomas was characterized, along with the assessment of its potential as a therapeutic target. The clinical prognostic value of nucleolin for human pulmonary carcinomas was evaluated through data mining from the Cancer Genome Atlas project and immunohistochemical detection in human samples.

However, there is evidence of an increase in violence against them, which brings consequences, such as anxiety. The aim of this study was to analyze the anxiety levels of health professionals who have or not suffered violence during the COVID-19 pandemic, and verify the variables associated with the risk of starting to take medication for anxiety.

Objective: Evaluating the prevalence and analyzing the variables involved in the occurrence of violence against health professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil.
Method: This is a cross-sectional study conducted online involving Brazilian health professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Objective: To analyze the management of bullying by the managers of elementary schools.
Methods: Descriptive, exploratory research carried out through semi-structured interviews with 17 school counselors from a city in the South of Brazil, randomly selected from different geographical sectors. The interviews were recorded with participants' consent and, after transcription and checking, were discarded.
Background: Detection of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations in exons 18-21 is recommended in all patients with advanced Non-small-cell lung carcinoma due to the demonstrated efficiency of the standard therapy with tyrosine kinase inhibitors in EGFR-mutated patients. Therefore, choosing a suitable technique to test EGFR mutational status is crucial to warrant a valid result in a short turnaround time using the lowest possible amount of tissue material. The Idylla™ EGFR Mutation Test is a simple, fast and reliable method designed for the detection of EGFR mutations from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples.

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common malignant tumors of the digestive tract and is the third leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has been associated with approximately 10% of the total cases of gastric carcinomas. No previous study has analyzed the prevalence of EBV infection in gastric cancer of the Portuguese population.

T regulatory (Treg) cells may prevent fetal rejection by the maternal immune system under the influence of progesterone. Case control study was conducted to determine Treg cells, IL-10, TGF-β, and membrane progesterone receptorα (mPRα) in the maternal-fetal interface (placenta), including eight pregnant women with threatened PTL (study group) and 16 normal-delivery women (control group).

Methods: A retrospective, transversal, and analytical study was carried out in the municipality of Maringá, Paraná, Brazil, based on data from Boletins de Ocorrência de Acidente de Trânsito ("Police Occurrence Bulletins"; BOATs). Following probability sampling, the sociodemographic aspects, logistics, environmental conditions, and time of occurrence of 418 cases of accidents were analyzed.
Although lung cancer continues to be the leading cause of cancer-related death, accurate diagnosis followed by personalized treatment is expected to raise the 5-year survival rate. Targeted therapies are now in routine clinical use, in particular for lung adenocarcinoma (ADC). Fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) has recently emerged as a molecular target, especially in squamous cell/epidermoid carcinoma (SQC) of the lung.

Purpose: The use of trastuzumab (Herceptin) to target HER2 has been applied in breast carcinoma and gastric carcinoma (GC). Previous studies have tested trastuzumab's effectiveness by assessing HER2 expression or HER2 amplification by means of immunohistochemistry (IHC) or fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). In this work we aimed to evaluate automated FISH and IHC technologies for HER2 detection in GC biopsies to be used in routine pathology practice.

Introduction: Multiple studies have reported strong associations between () inflammation and gastric cancer (GC) development. Altered expressions of pro/anti-inflammatory cytokines have a crucial role in and GC proliferation. Although there are many studies related to cytokines polymorphisms involvement in GC risk, the role of Interleukin-4 (IL-4) and Interleukin-6 (IL-6) in gastric inflammation process is not yet clarified.

Pulmonary adenocarcinomas are still in the process of achieving morphological, immunohistochemical and genetic standardization. The ATS/ERS/IASLC proposed classification for lung adenocarcinomas supports the value of the identification of histological patterns, specifically in biopsies. Thirty pulmonary adenocarcinomas were subjected to immunohistochemical study (CK7, CK5, 6, 18, CK20, TTF1, CD56, HER2, EGFR and Ki-67), FISH and PCR followed by sequencing and fragment analysis for EGFR, HER2 and KRAS.
