Aims: In fixation of the fibula in ankle fractures, the AO Foundation advocates using a lag screw and one-third tubular neutralization plate for simple patterns. Where a lag screw cannot be placed, bridging fixation is required. A local pilot service evaluation previously identified variance in use of locking plates in all patterns with significant cost implications.

Background: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are revolutionising orthopaedic surgery by transforming clinical problem-solving into data-driven input-output frameworks. AI allows surgeons and clinicians to analyse problems and offer innovative solutions objectively. It also enables clinicians to view these problems as an input-output continuum rather than an obstacle that needs to be solved from the basic principles upwards.

Background: Prescribing medication is an essential part of clinical dentistry, particularly concerning the use of antibiotics for acute odontogenic infections, surgical prophylaxis, and care of medically compromised patients. Research on dental students' knowledge and perception of antimicrobial prophylaxis in dental practice is notably lacking in Nepal. This study aims to bridge that gap by assessing the level of understanding among Nepali dental students.

Background And Objective: Kabaddi is an athletic contact sport that involves power, aggression, fine mind-body balance, agility, and swift reflexes. Since Kabaddi is a contact sport, athletes face a higher risk of injuries during competition and training. There is a paucity of literature regarding sports injuries during this game.

Photovoltaic power plant outputs depend on the daily global solar radiation (DGSR). The main issue with DGSR data is its lack of precision. The potential unavailability of DGSR data for several sites can be attributed to the high cost of measuring instruments and the intermittent nature of time series data due to equipment malfunctions.

Introduction: ?Maffucci syndrome (MS) is a rare disorder with enchondromatosis associated with multiple hemangiomas in soft tissue and internal organs. Enchondromas in the long bone lead to limb length discrepancy, deformity, and pathological fractures that usually need corrective osteotomies and limb lengthening.

Case Report: A female in her late adolescence with MS presented with significant varus deformity of the distal femur and left lower limb shortening of 11.

Article Synopsis
  • Fine particulate matter (PM) is a major pollutant in urban areas like Guwahati, posing serious health risks, and this study employs low-cost sensors to measure PM concentrations across multiple sites over a year.
  • Seasonal variations greatly affect PM levels, with the highest concentrations found in winter (113.05 µg/m³) and the lowest during the monsoon (32.36 µg/m³), linked to local weather conditions that hinder PM dispersion.
  • The study also highlights how air quality is influenced by regional and transboundary factors, with urban PM levels affected by local industrial and traffic activities, alongside the prevailing wind patterns.

Viruses have undergone evolutionary adaptations to tune their utilization of carbon sources, enabling them to extract specific cellular substrates necessary for their replication. The lack of a reliable cell culture system and a small-animal model has hampered our understanding of the molecular mechanism of replication of hepatitis E virus (HEV) genotype 1. Our recent identification of a replicative ensemble of mutant HEV RNA libraries has allowed us to study the metabolic prerequisites for HEV replication.

  • Proteomics is the extensive study of proteins, focusing on their structure and function through methods like identification and quantification.
  • The main approach, known as "shotgun" or "bottom-up proteomics," involves breaking proteins into smaller peptides for analysis via mass spectrometry.
  • This review aims to guide newcomers in proteomics by explaining various methods from basic biochemistry and protein extraction to interpretation and validation of results.

Urban agriculture is common in fertile river floodplains of many developing countries. However, there is a risk of contamination in highly polluted regions. This study quantifies health risks associated with the consumption of vegetables grown in the floodplain of the urban river 'Yamuna' in the highly polluted yet data-scarce megacity Delhi, India.

Purpose: The aim of the present systematic review was to quantitatively synthesize the best literature evidence regarding osteoarthritis developing after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), including only studies with a follow-up duration of at least 20 years.

Material And Methods: A systematic review was conducted based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines on four electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, EMBASE and Cochrane Library). The outcome measures extracted from the studies were failure rate, subsequent knee surgery on the same knee, radiographic development of osteoarthritis measured with Kellgren-Lawrence, International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) radiographic score and Ahlbäck classification.

The study presented here aims at assessing the effects of hypobaric hypoxia on RAAS pathway and its components along with mitigation of anomalies with quercetin prophylaxis. One hour prior to hypobaric hypoxia exposure, male SD rats were orally supplemented with quercetin (50 mg/kg BW) and acetazolamide (50 mg/kg BW) and exposed them to 25,000 ft. (7,620 m) in a simulated environmental chamber for 12 h at 25 ± 2 °C.

Variant peptides resulting from single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) can lead to aberrant protein functions and have translational potential for disease diagnosis and personalized therapy. Variant peptides detected by proteogenomics are fraught with high number of false positives, but there is no uniform and comprehensive approach to assess variant quality across analysis pipelines. Despite class-specific FDR along with ad-hoc filters, the problem is far from solved.

Background: Nevus of Ota is a facial dermal melanocytic hamartoma occurring more commonly in Asians. The mainstay of treatment is 1064-nm Q-Switched neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser, which has shown variable results in pigmented skin.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine whether Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser treatment combined with fractional CO laser is more efficacious than Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser alone.

Article Synopsis
  • Severe dengue, caused by the dengue virus, is a significant global health issue tied to uncontrolled immune cell activation and excessive inflammation.
  • This research indicates that immune responses in severe dengue could arise from direct virus interactions or through extracellular vesicles (EVs) from infected cells, which have not been thoroughly studied yet.
  • The study finds that EVs from the plasma of severe dengue patients may suppress CD4+ T cell activity, possibly aiding in the progression of the disease.
