Squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) are one of the most common cancer types and can arise at nearly any anatomic site. As SCCs are one of the most common metastases, do not have reliable site-specific morphologic or genomic features and have considerable morphologic and immunohistochemical overlap with urothelial carcinomas, distinguishing between primary and metastatic squamous appearing tumors can be challenging. This distinction can be critical to clinical management.

Here we examine the impact of WGD on somatic evolution and immune evasion at single-cell resolution in patient tumours. Using single-cell whole-genome sequencing, we analysed 70 high-grade serous ovarian cancer samples from 41 patients (30,260 tumour genomes) and observed near-ubiquitous evidence that WGD is an ongoing mutational process.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: To summarise the literature on healthcare interventions to reduce harm to patients caused by the COVID-19 pandemic across six domains: medication safety, diagnostic safety, surgical safety, healthcare-associated infections, pressure injuries and falls.
Methods: We performed a mixed-methods systematic review, with the intention to present results narratively. We combined parallel searches and expert input across each domain of interest, identifying 13 019 unique articles across the six domains.
Tumor protein p53 mutated/abnormal (p53abn) endometrial carcinomas account for over 50% of deaths but comprise only 15% of all endometrial carcinomas. Most patients show limited response to standard-of-care chemotherapy with or without radiotherapy, and only a minority of cases are amenable to targeted therapies like poly-ADP ribose polymerase (PARP) inhibitors and HER2-directed therapies. Recent immunotherapy clinical trials have demonstrated remarkable efficacy, not only in mismatch repair deficient (MMRd) tumors but also in a subset of mismatch repair-proficient (MMRp) tumors.

The global prevalence of diabetes is steadily rising, with an estimated 537 million adults affected by diabetes in 2021, projected to reach 783 million by 2045. A severe consequence of diabetes is the development of painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN), afflicting approximately one in every three diabetic patients and significantly compromising their quality of life. Current pharmacotherapies for PDN provide inadequate pain relief for many patients, underscoring the need for novel treatments that are both safe and effective.

Report And Methods: PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, and SCOPUS were searched from January 1, 2006 through March 15, 2022 for studies in the United States that involved EMS clinicians and firefighters, reported on one or more workplace practices or interventions that prevented or controlled infectious diseases, and included outcome measures. Eleven (11) observational studies reported on infection prevention and control (IPC) practices providing evidence that hand hygiene, standard precautions, mandatory vaccine policies, and on-site vaccine clinics are effective.

Background: Steadily increasing expenditure in the United States health-care system has led to a shift toward a value-based model that focuses on quality of care and cost-effectiveness. Operations involving the spine rank among some of the most common and expensive procedures performed in operating rooms nationwide. Patient-reported outcomes measures (PROMs) are a useful tool for reporting levels of outcome and analyzing patient recovery but are both under-utilized and nonstandardized in spine surgery.
