Introduction: Managing patients with highly frequent seizures poses significant challenges for clinicians due to their high resistance to therapy. This study aims to evaluate the 12-month efficacy, safety, and tolerability of PER as the sole add-on therapy for patients with highly active epilepsy in a real-world setting.
Methods: Data from the previous Italian retrospective, observational, multicenter "PERampanel as Only Concomitant Antiseizure Medication" (PEROC) study were analyzed, categorizing patients by baseline seizure frequency into three groups: < 5, 5-20, and > 20 seizures/month.
Objective: The AMPA study (Study 501; NCT04257604) was a multicenter, prospective, 12-month observational study in Italy that evaluated the effectiveness and safety of adjunctive perampanel in patients with focal-onset seizures (FOS), with or without focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures (FBTCS).
Methods: Patients aged ≥12 years with insufficiently controlled FOS, with or without FBTCS, receiving 1-3 anti-seizure medications (ASMs) were prescribed adjunctive perampanel per the approved indication. The primary endpoint was the median percent change in total seizure frequency per 28 days from baseline at Month 6.
Objective: Cenobamate is an antiseizure medication (ASM) with a dual mechanism of action that was recently approved for the treatment of focal seizures in adults. This analysis aimed to describe the outcomes at 12 and 24 weeks after starting cenobamate therapy in a real-world setting.

Introduction: Bitemporal epilepsy (biTLE), a potential cause of failure in TLE surgery, is rarely associated with unilateral HS and could be suggested by not lateralizing ictal scalp EEG/interictal PET-FDG findings. Purpose: Lacosamide (LCM), the R-enantiomer of 2-acetamido-N-benzyl-3-methoxypropionamide, is a newer approved antiseizure medication characterized by a novel pharmacodynamic and favorable pharmacokinetic profile that was approved as adjunctive treatment for adults with focal onset and focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures in 2008, and recently also for monotherapy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and tolerability of LCM as first add-on or conversion monotherapy in adult subjects with focal epilepsy.

Methods: Twelve patients affected by TLE were recruited to undergo overnight polysomnography and a subjective evaluation of nocturnal sleep utilizing the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and daytime somnolence through the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) before and after three months of treatment with ESL as add-on therapy.

Background: Hippocampal sclerosis (HS) may be associated with focal cortical dysplasia IIIa (FCD IIIa) in patients undergoing surgery for temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE).
Objective: To investigate whether the anatomo-electro-clinical profile and surgical outcome in patients with HS-related TLE are affected by coexisting FCD IIIa.
Methods: A total of 220 patients, operated in 5 centers, with at least 24 mo follow-up (FU), were retrospectively studied.
Background: In cases undergoing epilepsy surgery, postoperative psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) may be underdiagnosed complicating the assessment of postsurgical seizures' outcome and the clinical management. We conducted a survey to investigate the current practices in the European epilepsy monitoring units (EMUs) and the data that EMUs could provide to retrospectively detect cases with postoperative PNES and to assess the feasibility of a subsequent postoperative PNES research project for cases with postoperative PNES.
Methods: We developed and distributed a questionnaire survey to 57 EMUs.
