The aging vasculature is characterized by endothelial dysfunction, arterial stiffness, and increased susceptibility to vascular pathologies. Central to these changes is the process of cellular senescence, where endothelial and vascular smooth muscle cells lose their replicative and functional capacity and adopt a pro-inflammatory secretory phenotype. This review provides an overview of the key mechanisms underlying vascular senescence, including the p53/p21 and p16/Rb pathways, the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP), and oxidative stress, examines its contribution to cardiovascular diseases in older adults, and highlights emerging therapeutic strategies aimed at delaying or reversing these age-related vascular changes.

The plant kingdom serves as a valuable resource for cancer drug development. This study explored the antitumor activity of different sub-fractions (hexane, dichloromethane and methanol) of (gorse) methanol extract in glioblastoma (U-87MG and U-373MG) and neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y) cell lines, along with their phytochemical profiles. Cytotoxicity was evaluated using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assays, and cell cycle arrest and apoptosis were assessed through flow cytometry and by measuring reactive oxygen species (ROS) and protein expression levels.

Due to the need for new chemical entities for cardiovascular diseases, we have synthesized a new series of nitrate-coumarins and evaluated their vasorelaxant activity in contraction-relaxation studies using rat aorta rings precontracted with phenylephrine or by depolarization with a high concentration of potassium chloride. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive and incurable neurodegenerative disorder of integrative areas of the brain, characterized by cognitive decline and disability resulting in negative impacts on the family of the patients and the health care services worldwide. AD involves oxidative stress, neuroinflammation and accelerated apoptosis, accompanied by deposition of amyloid-β peptide plaques and tau protein-based neurofibrillary tangles in the central nervous system.
