This study is a comprehensive epidemiological assessment of nasal foreign bodies (NFB) in pediatric patients, focusing on racial and gender disparities in incidence and outcomes. Pediatric NFB case data in children aged 0 to 12 was collected from The National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) spanning 2012-2021. Emergency room disposition was classified into treatment and release, hospitalization, and leaving against medical advice.

Purpose: To explore the associations between sociodemographic factors with advanced-stage oral cavity cancer (OCC) presentation among Floridians.
Methods: Demographic and cancer data on OCC patients (n = 7,826) diagnosed between 2010 and 2017 were retrieved from the Florida Cancer Data System (FCDS). Census tract median income and percentage of population with a bachelor's degree or higher were used to infer income and education.

Objective: This study examines whether the timing of botulinum toxin type A (BoNTA) treatments affects outcomes in patients with synkinesis, a sequela of Bell's Palsy characterized by disconjugate facial muscle movement.
Study Design: A retrospective chart review.
Setting: An urban academic medical center.
Boxing is a popular combat sport in which participants frequently experience head trauma. The neurological impact of boxing has been widely discussed, but the impact on the bone and soft tissue of the head has been less investigated. For this study, a national emergency department database was used to investigate the impact of a 2013 rule change - removing the requirement for amateurs to wear head protection - on the frequency and type of facial injuries sustained by amateur boxers.

Oral cavity and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma make up most tumors with five-year survival rates of 50% due to prevalence of late-stage diagnoses. Improved methods of early detection in high-risk individuals are urgently needed.

Objective: To summarize the use of deep learning in the detection of voice disorders using acoustic and laryngoscopic input, compare specific neural networks in terms of accuracy, and assess their effectiveness compared to expert clinical visual examination.
Data Sources: Embase, MEDLINE, and Cochrane Central.
Review Methods: Databases were screened through November 11, 2023 for relevant studies.
Background: The link between post-operative narcotic prescription and opioid misuse has spurred a nationwide effort to reduce perioperative opioid use. Previous work has suggested that perioperative gabapentin may reduce post-operative pain and opioid consumption across different procedures, although the optimal regimen remains to be defined.
Methods: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) patients undergoing functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) with or without septoplasty were randomized to receive a 7-day pre- and post-operative course of placebo or gabapentin, starting at 300 mg daily and titrated to 300 mg three times daily, in a double-blind fashion.
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of omega-3 fatty acid (O3FA) supplementation in the treatment of COVID-related olfactory dysfunction (OD).
Methods: Patients with laboratory-confirmed or clinically-suspected COVID-19 infection and new-onset OD from August 2020 to November 2021 were prospectively recruited. Patients with quantitative OD, defined as a brief smell identification test (BSIT) score of 9 or less, were eligible for study inclusion.
Hair restoration surgery is a popular procedure among patients of all ethnic groups. Whether performing hair procedures to treat male and female pattern hair loss, or to restore eyebrows and beards, or to shorten overly high hairlines, the surgeon must consider differences in esthetic ideals, hair characteristics, and healing properties to achieve optimal results.

Tobacco is a risk factor of head and neck cancer (HNC) and smoking cessation alone may reduce HNC risk by 70%. Soluble CD44 (solCD44), a cell surface receptor linked to cell proliferation and migration, and total protein (TP) levels can detect early HNC. This study aims to determine whether salivary solCD44 and TP levels in oral rinses change following a smoking cessation program.

Importance: A large proportion of extremity soft-tissue sarcomas (ESS) occur among young adults, yet this group is underrepresented in clinical trials, resulting in limited data on this population. Younger patients present many complex challenges that affect clinical management.
Objective: To investigate variations in treatment management in young adults vs older adults with ESS.
