Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune condition that damages the myelin sheath of neurons in the central nervous system, resulting in compromised nerve transmission and motor impairment. The astrocytopathy is considered one of the prominent etiological factor in the pathophysiology of demyelination in MS. The expression level of ceramide synthase-2 (CS-2) is yet to be established in the pathophysiology of astrocytopathy although the derailed ceramide biosynthetic pathways is well demonstrated in the pathophysiology of demyelination.

Deciphering genomic basis of unique adaptation of Ladakhi cattle to Trans-Himalayan high-altitude region of Leh-Ladakh in India.

In this study, whole genome sequence data of Ladakhi cattle from high altitude region of Leh-Ladakh and Sahiwal cattle from arid, semi-arid tropical region were compared. To gain a deeper understanding of the selective footprints in the genomes of Ladakhi and Sahiwal cattle, two strategies namely run of homozygosity (ROH), and fixation index (F) were employed. A total of 975 and 1189 ROH regions were identified in Ladakhi and Sahiwal cattle, respectively.

Clinical profile of patients attending a prison psychiatric clinic.

Psychiatric morbidity is higher in prison inmates as compared to that in general population but treatment facilities are often inadequate. The present work reports the profile of psychiatric patients seen in a jail hospital over a period of three months. The jail had about 9000 inmates.

A comparative study of branch retinal vein occlusion and central vein occlusion amongst Malaysian patients.

A retrospective study of 95 patients with retinal vein occlusion was carried out to determine the clinical presentation and pattern of distribution in the local Malaysian population. There was no significant difference found in its distribution with regards to sex. In comparing branch retinal vein occlusion with central retinal vein occlusion, no significant differences were found in its racial distribution.
