Background And Aims: In the Brassicaceae family, apomictic development is characteristic of the genus Boechera. Hybridization, polyploidy and environmental adaptation that arose during the evolution of Boechera may serve as (epi)genetic regulators of apomictic initiation in this genus. Here we focus on Boechera stricta, a predominantly diploid species that reproduces sexually.

Exploring the cocrystallization potential of urea and benzamide.

J Mol Model

May 2016

Research Laboratory, Faculty of Chemical Technology and Engineering, University of Technology and Life Sciences in Bydgoszcz, Seminaryjna 3, 85-326, Bydgoszcz, Poland.

The cocrystallization landscape of benzamide and urea interacting with aliphatic and aromatic carboxylic acids was studied both experimentally and theoretically. Ten new cocrystals of benzamide were synthesized using an oriented samples approach via a fast dropped evaporation technique. Information about types of known bi-component cocrystals augmented with knowledge of simple binary eutectic mixtures was used for the analysis of virtual screening efficiency among 514 potential pairs involving aromatic carboxylic acids interacting with urea or benzamide.

Propensity of salicylamide and ethenzamide cocrystallization with aromatic carboxylic acids.

Eur J Pharm Sci

Department of Physical Chemistry, Pharmacy Faculty, Collegium Medicum of Bydgoszcz, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Kurpińskiego 5, 85-950 Bydgoszcz, Poland. Electronic address:

The cocrystallization of salicylamide (2-hydroxybenzamide, SMD) and ethenzamide (2-ethoxybenzamide, EMD) with aromatic carboxylic acids was examined both experimentally and theoretically. The supramolecular synthesis taking advantage of the droplet evaporative crystallization (DEC) technique was combined with powder diffraction and vibrational spectroscopy as the analytical tools. This led to identification of eleven new cocrystals including pharmaceutically relevant coformers such as mono- and dihydroxybenzoic acids.

Tail-anchored (TA) proteins are a unique class of functionally diverse membrane proteins defined by their single C-terminal membrane-spanning domain and their ability to insert post-translationally into specific organelles with an Ncytoplasm-Corganelle interior orientation. The molecular mechanisms by which TA proteins are sorted to the proper organelles are not well-understood. Herein we present results indicating that a dibasic targeting motif (i.

Cyanamide (CA) is a phytotoxic compound produced by four Fabaceae species: hairy vetch, bird vetch, purple vetch and black locust. Its toxicity is due to complex activity that involves the modification of both cellular structures and physiological processes. To date, CA has been investigated mainly in dicot plants.

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are members of the cellular receptors that constitute a major component of the evolutionary conserved pattern recognition system (PRR). TLRs are expressed in a wide variety of tissues and cell types. In this study we compared the expression profiles of the chicken TLR1, TLR2 and TLR5 genes in a range of organs (lung, ovary, liver, thymus, duodenum, spleen and large intestine) in commercial Hy-Line (HL) and indigenous Green-legged Partridgelike (GP) chickens.

Laboratory of Biotechnology, Department of Ornamental Plants and Vegetable Crops, University of Technology and Life Sciences in Bydgoszcz, Bernardyńska 6, 85-029 Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Having produced the embryos of cactus Copiapoa tenuissima Ritt. forma monstruosa at the globular stage and callus, we investigated the effect of abscisic acid (ABA) in the following concentrations: 0, 0.1, 1, 10, and 100  μ M on successive stages of direct (DSE) and indirect somatic embryogenesis (ISE).

Here we investigate the effect of S-dipalmitoylation on the electron capture dissociation (ECD) behavior of peptides. The ECD and collision induced dissociation (CID) of peptides modified by covalent attachment of [(RS)-2,3-di(palmitoyloxy)-propyl] (PAM2) group to cysteine residues [C(PAM2)LEYDTGFK and RPPGC(PAM2)SPFK] were examined. The results suggest that ECD of S-dipalmitoylated peptides can provide both primary sequence information and structural information regarding the modification.

Since chicken myogenesis is tightly controlled by myogenic regulatory factors (MRFs), the external stimuli (e.g. light or temperature) affecting the proliferation and differentiation of the muscle cells have a primary effect on the gene expression of MRFs.

March 2013

University of Technology and Life Sciences in Bydgoszcz, Faculty of Animal Breeding and Biology, Department of Biology of Small Ruminants and Environmental Biochemistry, Mazowiecka 28, 85-084 Bydgoszcz, Poland.

The aim of the study was to adapt a method to determine acrosin activity of human spermatozoa to arctic fox (Alopex lagopus L.) spermatozoa. We modified this method by reducing sperm count per sample from 1 divided by 10 x 10(6) to 25 divided by 200 x 10(3), incubation time from 180 minutes to 60 minutes, and Triton X-100 concentration in the reaction mixture from 0.

Wind farms produce electricity without causing air pollution and environmental degradation. Unfortunately, wind turbines are a source of infrasound, which may cause a number of physiological effects, such as an increase in cortisol and catecholamine secretion. The impact of infrasound noise, emitted by wind turbines, on the health of geese and other farm animals has not previously been evaluated.

Endoreduplication intensity as a marker of seed developmental stage in the Fabaceae.

Cytometry A

December 2012

Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Cytometry, Department of Plant Genetics and Biotechnology, University of Technology and Life Sciences in Bydgoszcz, 85-789 Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Article Synopsis
  • Flow cytometry (FCM) is a technique that helps seed growers study the cell cycle in developing and germinating seeds, providing insights into their physiological state and ideal harvest times.
  • A study on seed development in five Fabaceae species found that the 4C/2C ratio (used to assess mitotic activity) might not be suitable for seeds with varying DNA content, called polysomatic seeds.
  • The research suggests using the (Σ>2C)/2C ratio in cotyledons as a more accurate indicator of seed developmental stages and germinability in polysomatic seeds.

March 2012

University of Technology and Life Sciences in Bydgoszcz, Faculty of Animal Breeding and Biology, Department of Animal Physiology, Mazowiecka 28, 85-084 Bydgoszcz, Poland.

The aim of the research was to determine the concentration of total protein and its fractions as well as the concentration of selected mineral components in the blood serum of male broiler chickens Cobb 500 fed diets with different cellulose content. Blood samples were collected for examination from the birds' pterygoid canal veins on their 42 day of age. There was no influence of cellulose preparation on the content of total protein and its fractions: albumins, alfa1-, alfa2-, beta-, gamma-globulins, albumin to globulin ratio, inorganic phosphorus, sodium, potassium, chloride and iron concentrations in blood serum.
