Purpose: Psychophysical measures of auditory sensitivity are often used to explain speech recognition outcomes. However, interpretation of performance on these tasks assumes that they are insensitive to other factors, such as cognitive ability. Recent studies have cast doubt on this assumption by observing relationships between cognition and performance on psychoacoustic tasks.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the association of mental imagery ability with open suturing performance objectively.
Design: Participants completed a robust mental imagery assessment battery, mental imagery of simple interrupted suturing while verbalizing each step and having cortical activity measured with an electroencephalogram (EEG), and 2 physical repetitions of simple interrupted suturing. Correlation tests were run to determine relationships among variables.

Negative perceptions of aging can form early in life and become difficult to change. Children are inundated with ageist messages through various sources and internalize those ideas without questioning them. Those who hold positive views of aging tend to be healthier, live longer, and engage more meaningfully and ethically with others.

Introduction: Physical therapists (PTs) have been called to address the chronic preventable disease burden in the United States by incorporating health promotion, wellness, and disease prevention (HPWP) in practice. Irregular HPWP practice has been reported, with few studies looking beyond physical activity.
Methods: A cross-sectional survey design assessed the frequency of conversations about physical activity (PA), nutrition, sleep, stress management, and tobacco cessation with patients in an outpatient PT practice and the factors related to their inclusion.

Shilpee Sinha is an attending physician for the palliative care service at Indiana University Health and an associate professor, Adult Academic Health Center, Indiana University.
Background: Patients with critical illness often seek meaningful relationships with members of their care teams. The patient experience can be enhanced through a goals-of-care conversation, an aspect of palliative care that focuses on the patient-clinician relationship. Despite recommendations for early palliative care interventions, no standardized time for generalists to initiate palliative care interventions in the acute care setting has been established.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFirefighters worldwide play a critical role in safeguarding the public and their work exposes them to significant health and safety risks. The physical demands of firefighting such as fire suppression, victim rescue, and operating in confined, hazardous environments are compounded by the weight of personal protective equipment (PPE) and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). These demands contribute to a high prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs).

Objective: This study investigates the association between maximal oxygen uptake (VO 2 max) and coronary artery calcium (CAC) scores in Indiana firefighters across different age groups.
Methods: Using cross-sectional data, multivariable linear regression was conducted to examine the relationship between VO 2 max and CAC, stratified by age (<45 and ≥45 years), with adjustments for cardiovascular risk factors.
Results: Higher VO 2 max was significantly associated with lower CAC scores in firefighters aged ≥45 years (β = -7.

Background: Firefighting involves exposure to hazardous conditions that may contribute to adverse long term health outcomes, including cardiovascular disease. While coronary artery disease (CAD) is a leading cause of morbidity among firefighters, the specific occupational contributions to Coronary Artery Calcification (CAC), a reliable predictor of CAD, are not well understood.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study involving 410 firefighters, aged 35-68, who underwent comprehensive health assessments, including CAC measurement using computed tomography.

Introduction: Clinical reasoning (CR) is a complex skill that requires great depth of knowledge and practical skills to provide comprehensive care in a dynamic health care setting. Within health care education programs, simulation experiences, such as an educational escape room (EER), create realistic, meaningful, and engaging learning environments that can aid in developing CR. Research on the impact of an EER on CR development through the student lens is limited.

Introduction: There has been an emergence of evidence in the area of frozen shoulder (FS) within the past decade related to risk factors, etiology, diagnosis, and management. It has become increasingly challenging for clinicians and researchers to stay up to date in these areas, particularly with the clinical practice guidelines that are available being few and outdated. To this end, the aim of this study was to produce an international consensus on the risk factors, etiology, diagnosis and management for individuals with FS.

Since its discovery, the natural endocast of the Taung cranium has played a central role in the interpretation of human brain evolution. Aspects of the endocast including the identification of the lunate sulcus, possible expansion of the parietal lobe, and rounded profile suggested to R. Dart that the Taung individual was aligned with humans and not with other anthropoid primates, yet these interpretations were immediately controversial and remain so today.

Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) occur sporadically or as part of rare endocrine tumor syndromes (RETSs) such as multiple endocrine neoplasia 1 and von Hippel-Lindau syndromes. Due to their relative rarity and lack of model systems, NETs and RETSs are difficult to study, hindering advancements in therapeutic development. Causal or mechanistic mathematical modeling is widely deployed in disease areas such as breast and prostate cancers, aiding the understanding of observations and streamlining and modeling efforts.

Unlabelled: The Roman site of Herculaneum provides an extraordinary opportunity to reconstruct ancient diets in the context of life course theory because everyone died simultaneously due to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.
Objectives: The current study addresses three primary hypotheses: (1) Subadult diets changed as children aged, (2) adult diets differed from subadult diets, and (3) male and female diets differed as they age.
Materials And Methods: This study includes dental microwear texture data from 58 adults (age 16+) and 23 subadults (age 0-16) recovered by Sarah Bisel from within and near to storage rooms adjacent to Herculaneum's beach.

Background: Back pain is increasingly common, leading to more spine surgeries. While most people experience pain relief and improved function after surgery, many continue to suffer from chronic post-surgical pain (CPSP) with limited functional improvement. CPSP is often treated with opioids, raising concerns about misuse, poor functional outcomes, and broader public health impacts.
