A 47-year-old male presented with a right-sided Shamblin type 2 carotid body tumor measuring 5*5 cm. After preoperative embolization, a sub adventitial resection of the tumor was done. He was discharged after postoperative day 5 and presented again to emergency 10 days later with a bleeding pseudoaneurysm at the surgical site causing dysphagia and dyspnea.

Given the shortage of suitable donor kidneys, use of an expanded criteria donor (ECD) allows marginal kidneys to be transplanted; albeit at risk of increased graft failure due to lower nephron mass. To reduce the risk of graft failure, double kidney transplant (DKT) is advocated, with favorable outcomes.

Publications after conference presentations: A systematic review of published studies.

Background And Aims: Conferences provide an opportunity to present findings to an audience of experts in the field and get feedback for putting the research in context. Since conference proceedings provide limited space for presenting the findings, research publications are able to provide a better platform for the wider reach, scrupulous peer evaluation, and temporal consolidation of the medical scientific material. This review attempts to collate the studies which have evaluated the abstract publication ratio of the conference presentations.

Adding further evidence for clinically significant anti-Le antibody in a voluntary blood donor.

Herein, we report a case of naturally occurring anti-Le alloantibody identified in the plasma of a first time voluntary blood donor. The immunohematology workup was done on the pilot sample tubes collected during blood donation by the conventional tube technique and using ID-Micro Column System Glass Beads card (anti-IgG, Cd; Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, Raritan, New Jersey, USA). Blood group of the donor was confirmed to be B RhD positive, and the alloantibody in his plasma was identified as anti-Le, having clinically significant characteristics.

Causative Mutations and Mechanism of Androgenetic Hydatidiform Moles.

Androgenetic complete hydatidiform moles are human pregnancies with no embryos and affect 1 in every 1,400 pregnancies. They have mostly androgenetic monospermic genomes with all the chromosomes originating from a haploid sperm and no maternal chromosomes. Androgenetic complete hydatidiform moles were described in 1977, but how they occur has remained an open question.

An alternate surgical approach to reduce hemorrhage and complications during cesarean hysterectomy for adherent placenta.

Background: Cesarean hysterectomy for adherent placenta is associated with increased maternal morbidity due to massive hemorrhage requiring large volume blood transfusion, bladder or ureteric injury, intensive care unit (ICU) admission and prolonged hospital stay. There is an ongoing effort to improve the outcome of these women and measures to reduce blood loss.

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to develop an alternate surgical approach for performing a Cesarean hysterectomy in women with adherent placenta in order to reduce hemorrhage and urinary tract injuries, and thereby improve the maternal outcome.

The genetics of recurrent hydatidiform moles: new insights and lessons from a comprehensive analysis of 113 patients.

Hydatidiform mole is an aberrant human pregnancy characterized by early embryonic arrest and excessive trophoblastic proliferation. Recurrent hydatidiform moles are defined by the occurrence of at least two hydatidiform moles in the same patient. Fifty to eighty percent of patients with recurrent hydatidiform moles have biallelic pathogenic variants in NLRP7 or KHDC3L.

Role of DNA methylation in human age prediction.

DNA methylation (DNAm) is a fundamental biochemical modification which occurs over the lifespan of an individual and it is a significant component in the aging process. Methylation level of CpG sites plays an important role in finding the age of a person. Different approaches were used to extract age-related CpG (AR-CpG) sites for developing age-prediction models because the level of methylation is directly related to age for some CpG sites.

CC chemokine receptor-3 as new target for age-related macular degeneration.

CC chemokine receptor-3 (CCR3) is involved in angiogenic processes. Recently, CCR3 was accounted to participate in choroidal neovascularization (CNV) and CCR3 targeting was reported to be superior to standard antivascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) administration when tested in an artificially induced CNV in animals. As human CCR3 studies are lacking in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) patients we sought to determine if CCR3 has any association with inflammatory processes that occur in CNV.

Achalasia cardia associated with esophageal varices: a therapeutic dilemma.

A 63-year-old male, chronic alcohol consumer, presented with progressively increasing dysphagia of 6 months duration. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed dilated esophagus with residue along with esophageal varices. Esophageal manometry revealed findings suggestive of classic achalasia cardia.
