Background: The growing challenge of multimorbidity for healthcare systems worldwide demands a dual prevention framework, targeting both primary and secondary prevention. Multimorbidity-multibehaviours can provide such a theoretical and clinical framework to explore new aetiological evidence for multimorbidity risk. While the role of single health risk behaviours, such as smoking, nutrition, alcohol, and physical activity (SNAP), in chronic disease prevention is well-documented, their synergistic effect on multimorbidity has received relatively little attention.

Introduction: Long COVID (LC) is characterised by fatigue, muscle weakness and impaired concentration among other symptoms. No standardised diagnostic or treatment pathway is yet available, though a holistic, person-centred approach to symptom management is recommended. The LC Optimal Health Programme (LC-OHP) is a psychoeducational programme designed to support the mental and physical health of people with LC.

Objectives: Only 12% of people recommended fracture prevention medicines remain on treatment 1 year post fracture. The improving uptake of Fracture Prevention treatments (iFraP) intervention aims to improve shared decision-making (SDM) about, and uptake of, osteoporosis medicines in Fracture Liaison Services (FLS). This paper details development and feasibility.

Unlabelled: An electronic survey of 341 UK primary care staff identified barriers to evidence-based osteoporosis care including low confidence in clinical skills, the complex nature of decision-making, insufficient incentivisation and lack of systematic case finding. Opportunities to enhance osteoporosis care may include enhanced education and wider utilisation of the extended workforce.

Purpose: To investigate the beliefs, confidence and practices of general practice staff in the care of people with, or at increased risk of, osteoporotic fractures and the association between professional role and beliefs and confidence about osteoporosis care.

Background: The use of digital health (DH) interventions has increased over the past 2 decades, providing patients with alternative remote pathways for receiving health care services. Patients with major trauma frequently require long-term access to health care services to support their mental and physical health and their overall quality of life. DH interventions can help patients stay connected to rehabilitation services, thereby enhancing their health condition and helping them regain their independence, which will enable them to return to the workplace or regain a role in society.

Introduction: Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) international management guidelines advocate patient education and individualised exercises but lack evidence and physiotherapy practice for PMR is unknown. PMR is typically treated with glucocorticoids, but side effects are frequent and concerning to patients. This study investigated UK physiotherapy practice in PMR.

Background: About 30% of patients with depression treated with antidepressant medication do not respond sufficiently to the first agents used. Pramipexole might usefully augment antidepressant medication in such cases of treatment-resistant depression, but data on its effects and tolerability are scarce. We aimed to assess the efficacy and tolerability of pramipexole augmentation of ongoing antidepressant treatment, over 48 weeks, in patients with treatment-resistant depression.

We present a systematic evaluation of population health reviews from the Cochrane Database (January 2013-February 2023) to evaluate how indicators of inequity or disadvantage are considered and reported in population health evidence syntheses. Descriptive analyses explored a representation of reviews across health-determinant categories (primary and secondary categories), summarised equity-focused reviews, and examined proportions and types of reviews that planned/completed a subgroup analysis using ≥1 indicators from the PROGRESS-Plus framework. Of 363 reviews included, a minority focused on interventions targeting wider determinants of health (n = 83, 22.

Local variation in musculoskeletal pain consultation rates in primary care: findings from an ecologic study in Staffordshire.

Prim Health Care Res Dev

Professor of Biostatistics Primary Care Centre Versus Arthritis, School of Medicine, Keele University, Staffordshire, UK.

Variation between general practices in the rate of consultations for musculoskeletal pain conditions may signal important differences in access to primary care, perceived usefulness, or available alternative sources of care; however, it might also just reflect differences in underlying 'need' between practices' registered populations. In a study of 30 general practices in Staffordshire, we calculated the proportion of adults consulting for a musculoskeletal pain condition, then examined this in relation to selected practice and population characteristics, including the estimated prevalence of self-reported musculoskeletal problems and chronic pain in each practices' registered population. Between September 2021 and July 2022, 18,388 adults were consulted for a musculoskeletal pain condition.

Background: Understanding the impact of intensive treatment on pain in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is crucial to informing the application of evidence-based arthritis pain care. The impact of intensive treatment on inflammatory arthritis pain has received relatively limited attention. We addressed this through a detailed secondary analysis of three trials evaluating varying intensities of disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug treatment.

Objective: To evaluate if, and how, clinicians elicit and address health and medicine beliefs in osteoporosis consultations, and to evaluate the impact of a conversation aid (CA) on clinician behaviour.

Methods: Secondary analysis of 107 video-recorded consultations from two trials evaluating CAs, using a bespoke coding tool to record the presence or absence of clinician shared decision-making (SDM) behaviours. In addition to descriptive statistics, Fisher's exact test examined differences between consultations with and without CAs.

Introduction: Musculoskeletal shoulder pain is a common reason for people to be treated in physiotherapy services, but diagnosis can be difficult and often does not guide treatment or predict outcome. People with shoulder pain cite a need for clear information, and timely, tailored consultations for their pain. This trial will evaluate the introduction of a personalised guided consultation to help physiotherapists manage care for individuals with shoulder pain.
