Porphyromonas gingivalis has been linked to the development and progression of oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), and is considered to be a high-risk factor for ESCC. Currently, the commonly used methods for P. gingivalis detection are culture or DNA extraction-based, which are either time and labour intensive especially for high-throughput applications.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LAD) is a human malignancy successfully treated with the tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) gefitinib; however, the enrichment of therapy resistant cancer stem cells (CSCs) in such patients is assumed to be a source of treatment failure. Evaluation of LAD cell populations treated with the TKI inhibitor gefitinib identified unique aspects of a subpopulation of tumor cells exhibiting stem-like properties and mitochondria-specific metabolic features along with their reliance on sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) for survival advantage. This addiction to bioenergetic metabolism in LAD treated with EGFR-targeted therapy suggests that mitochondrial targeting should be synthetically lethal using established cytotoxic therapies.

Electroacupuncture inhibits mast cell degranulation via cannabinoid CB2 receptors in a rat model of allergic contact dermatitis.

Acupunct Med

December 2019

Hubei Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center of Preventive Treatment by Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Hubei University of Chinese Medicine, Wuhan, China.

Objective: Cannabinoid CB2 receptors (CB2Rs) are mainly present on immune cells including mast cells, which participate in 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB)-induced allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). In this study, we aimed to investigate whether inhibition of mast cell degranulation was involved in the anti-ACD effect of electroacupuncture (EA) at ST36 via CB2R.

Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were sensitised and challenged with DNFB following EA stimulation for 1 week.

Blockade of Immune-Checkpoint B7-H4 and Lysine Demethylase 5B in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma Confers Protective Immunity against Infection.

Cancer Immunol Res

September 2019

Henan Key Laboratory of Cancer Epigenetics, Cancer Hospital, The First Affiliated Hospital, College of Clinical Medicine, Medical College of Henan University of Science and Technology, Luoyang, China.

Pathogens are capable of hijacking immune defense mechanisms, thereby creating a tolerogenic environment for hypermutated malignant cells that arise within the site of infection. Immune checkpoint-oriented immunotherapies have shown considerable promise. Equally important, the epigenetic reprogramming of an immune-evasive phenotype that activates the immune system in a synergistic manner can improve immunotherapy outcomes.

In clinical practice, common problem polypharmacy could result in the increased risks of drug-drug interactions (DDIs). Co-administered imatinib (IMA) and voriconazole (VOR) as one treatment protocol in cancer patients with fungal infections are common. The aim of the present study was to assess the potential DDIs associated with the concurrent use of IMA and VOR in rat liver microsomes (RLMs) and in rats.

Department of Preventive Medicine, Institute of Biomedical Informatics, Joint National Laboratory for Antibody Drug Engineering, Cell Signal Transduction Laboratory, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Henan University, Kaifeng 475004, China. Electronic address:

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide, particularly in Asian populations, and responds poorly to conventional therapy. Subclassification of ESCCs by molecular analysis is a powerful strategy in extending conventional clinicopathologic classification, improving prognosis and therapy. Here we identified two ESCC molecular subtypes in Chinese population using gene expression profiling data and further validated the molecular subtypes in two other independent Asian populations (Japanese and Vietnamese).

Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common primary bone tumor in adolescents. Dysregulation of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) is associated with the cancer progression, of which cancer susceptibility candidate 11 (CASC11) has been indicated as an oncogene in several human cancers. However, the underlying mechanisms by which CASC11 contributes to OS metastasis remain undetermined.
