In the realm of document examination, the identification of suspicious alterations to handwritten documents is an important factor in case characterization. Investigating the differences in gel pen ink compositions has significant implications. In this study, we used desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (DESI-MS) to analyze the ink compositions of gel pens.

As an effective supplement to the current forensic DNA typing and one of the research hotpots in forensic science, the in-depth mining and characterization of biological evidence can provide rich and reliable clues for case investigation. In this study, the time-dependent variations of transcriptome were confirmed in blood samples within 0-168 days and a random forest model was established to realize the classification of blood samples with different TSD (time since deposition). Meanwhile, significant differences were observed in the transcripts of blood samples with different smoking habits and genders within a certain time period.

Because synthetic cannabinoids metabolize rapidly, techniques are urgently needed to identify the phase I metabolites of new synthetic cannabinoids, as well as the symbol metabolites, which can be used for detection in real cases. In this study, we used pooled human liver microsome (pHLM) and zebrafish combined with ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) Q Exactive Orbitrap MS to identify the phase I metabolites of two new synthetic cannabinoids 4F-MDMB-BICA and 4F-MDMB-BINACA in vitro and in vivo, respectively.

Craniofacial reconstruction recreates a facial outlook from the cranium based on the relationship between the face and the skull to assist identification. But craniofacial structures are very complex, and this relationship is not the same in different craniofacial regions. Several regional methods have recently been proposed, these methods segmented the face and skull into regions, and the relationship of each region is then learned independently, after that, facial regions for a given skull are estimated and finally glued together to generate a face.
