Background And Objective: The use of robotic-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) with intracorporeal urinary diversion has increased rapidly in the past decade. The approximation of the ileum toward the urethral stump could be a demanding step. Whereas the techniques for reconstruction have been described in detail, a comprehensive depiction of strategies to facilitate neobladder-urethral approximation is lacking.

Telesurgery has recently emerged as a transformative technology with the potential to revolutionize surgical care with humanitarian and training opportunities. The advent of new robotic systems with telesurgical capabilities promoted the interest toward telesurgery; the Toumai (Microport, China) is among these new platforms and the only approved in Europe so far. The Toumai is a multiport robotic system with an immersive console and a single patient cart.

Robotic surgery with Da Vinci has revolutionized the treatment of several diseases, including prostate cancer; nevertheless, costs remain the major drawback. Recently, new robotic platforms entered the market aiming to reduce costs and improve the access to robotic surgery. The aim of the study is to compare direct cost for initial hospital stay of radical prostatectomy performed with two different robotic systems, the Da Vinci and the new Hugo RAS system.

Remote surgery provides opportunity for enhanced surgical capabilities, wider healthcare reach, and potentially improved patient outcomes. The network reliability is the foundation of successful implementation of telesurgery. It relies on a robust, high-speed communication network, with ultra-low latency.

Despite the arising interest in three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction models from 2D imaging, their diffusion and perception among urologists have been scarcely explored. The aim of the study is to report the results of an international survey investigating the use of such tools among urologists of different backgrounds and origins. Beyond demographics, the survey explored the degree to which 3D models are perceived to improve surgical outcomes, the procedures mostly making use of them, the settings in which those tools are mostly applied, the surgical steps benefiting from 3D reconstructions and future perspectives of improvement.

Robotic assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) is a standard option for the treatment of bladder cancer. Currently, novel platforms are entering the market and the Hugo RAS (Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN, USA) is a new system consisting of an open console with 3D-HD screen and a multi-modular fashion. Even if several series are already available for radical prostatectomy, to now a full description of RARC performed with Hugo RAS is still lacking.

Objective: To show the feasibility, oncological and functional outcomes of neurovascular bundle (NVB) preservation during salvage robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP).

Patients And Methods: In the present institutional review board-approved retrospective analysis, between January 2008 and March 2016, 80 patients underwent salvage RARP, performed by a single surgeon (V.P), because of local recurrence after primary treatment.

Vesico-urethral anastomosis (VUA) is a technically challenging step in robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP) in obese individuals. We describe technical modifications to facilitate VUA encountered in obese individuals and in patients with a narrow pelvis. A Pubmed literature search was performed between 2000 and 2012 to review all articles related to RALP, obesity and VUA for evaluation of technique, complications and outcomes of VUA in obese individuals.

December 2009

Global Robotic Institute, Florida Hospital Celebration Heath, Orlando, FL, USA.

Introduction And Objective: Open radical prostatectomy (RRP) is the gold standard and most widespread treatment for clinically localized prostate cancer. However, in recent years robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RARP) is rapidly gaining acceptance among urologists worldwide. We sought to outline our surgical technique of robotic radical prostatectomy and provide practical recommendations based on available reports and personal experience.
