The European Pediatric Surgeons' Association (EUPSA) Network Office regularly endorses surveys that address controversial topics in pediatric surgery. However, the scientific impact of these within the medical literature remains unclear. To address this gap, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of all published EUPSA-endorsed surveys.

When a vagina is dysfunctional or absent, a neovagina is typically created using an intestinal or dermal graft. This causes complications and complaints from different inherent tissue properties. We recently developed an organ-specific matrix from healthy, human vaginal wall tissue by decellularization, and demonstrated native-like matrix protein composition and mechanical properties.

Background: The first 1000 days of life are a crucial foundational period during which many different factors can impact development. It is unknown to what extent different factors cluster and how this affects later-life outcomes.
Methods: In this population-based cohort study, we used registry data of all children born in the Netherlands in 2006.

Background: Delivery room trials face ethical and logistical enrolment challenges, including requirements for prospective, antenatal, parental consent. The Sustained Aeration of Infant Lungs (SAIL) study was a randomised controlled trial of two resuscitation strategies at birth, enrolling infants using both prospective antenatal consent and deferred postnatal (consent-to-continue) pathways. We aimed to compare recruitment and outcomes between SAIL trial centres with deferred consent available versus centres only using prospective antenatal consent.

Background: Conventional CT imaging has limitations in detecting subtle fractures or soft tissue hemorrhages of the pediatric hyoid-larynx complex due to its largely unossified, cartilaginous structure, creating a diagnostic gap in forensic investigations.
Objective: To explore the feasibility of micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and diffusible iodine-based contrast-enhanced computed tomography (diceCT) as high-resolution imaging techniques for detailed forensic and developmental assessment of the pediatric hyoid-larynx complex.
Materials And Methods: Five pediatric hyoid-larynx complex samples were obtained during forensic autopsies.

Introduction: This study was performed to compare childbirth experiences in the United Kingdom (UK) and the Netherlands (NL) and identify determinants of positive childbirth experiences in both countries.
Methods: Women who gave birth in the UK (n = 1303) or the NL (n = 900) between January 2017 and December 2020 who filled in the cross-sectional Babies Born Better survey were included in this study. Fully adjusted logistic regression models were used to assess differences in the odds of a positive childbirth experience between the two countries.

Study Question: Which research topics in the area of infertility should be prioritized in the allocation of research resources?
Summary Answer: Twelve research priorities were formulated, spanning the following areas: preventing infertility and preserving fertility, gynaecological diseases, male infertility, optimizing fertility treatments, optimizing psychosocial support and deepening knowledge on preimplantation development and early pregnancy.
What Is Known Already: Many research gaps related to infertility and its management remain understudied and underfunded, making it important to set priorities to ensure appropriate allocation of research resources.
Study Design, Size, Duration: The European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) appointed a multidisciplinary working group, including a patient representative, to develop a list of research priorities related to infertility, which are relevant to researchers and institutions that fund research.

The risk-reducing effect of aspirin on pregnancy complications is suggested to depend on therapy adherence. To gain more insight, we reviewed the available literature on aspirin adherence in pregnancy. Three parameters were investigated: methods of assessment of aspirin adherence, definitions of aspirin adherence, and association between aspirin adherence and pregnancy complications.

We present the Human Organ Atlas (HOA), an open data repository making accessible multiscale 3D imaging of human organs. The repository also provides software tools and training resources enabling worldwide access, sharing, and analysis of these datasets, facilitating further research and the continued expansion of the HOA. The images are generated using a synchrotron imaging technique - Hierarchical Phase-Contrast Tomography (HiP-CT) that uses the ESRF's Extremely Brilliant Source, spanning whole organ imaging at around 20 μm/voxel with local volumes of interest within the intact organs imaged down to ~ 1 μm/voxel.

Functional constipation is a common pediatric problem with significant impact on quality of life. Effective management requires a combination of behavioral strategies and pharmacologic treatments. This article discusses current pediatric approaches, evaluates how insights from adult gastroenterology can be implemented in pediatric care, and explores emerging therapies with the potential for pediatric use.

Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) for fetal chromosomal aberrations is an important component of healthcare systems worldwide, albeit with varying diagnostic coverage and conditions of use. In Germany, NIPT primarily focuses on trisomies 21, 18 and 13, for which the test costs are reimbursed by the statutory health insurance after thorough prior counseling. Despite this rather restrictive approach compared to other countries, concerns continue to be raised in Germany that young pregnant women, in particular, who are at a low risk of fetal aneuploidy, may have been overly encouraged to undergo NIPT.

Transplantations of cryopreserved immature testicular tissue (ITT) or spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) represent promising approaches to restore fertility in patients with testicular tissue or cell suspension cryopreserved for fertility preservation. With over 3000 testicular samples cryopreserved globally, clinically viable and standardized protocols restoring fertility using cryopreserved testicular tissue/cells are urgently needed. Decades of research demonstrate the feasibility of immature testicular tissue transplantation (ITTT) or spermatogonial stem cell transplantation (SSCT) in animal models, including non-human primates.

Objectives: Pediatric intestinal pseudo-obstruction (PIPO) is the most severe disorder of gut motility in childhood. Consensus on how and if patients should be fed (solid or bite and dissolve oral diet, gastric, jejunal, or parenteral feeding) is lacking. Our aim was to investigate the current nutrition practices among European referral centers, to aid in developing a future evidence-based consensus guideline.

Background: An increasingly vocal movement of patients with systemic complaints, supposedly linked to polypropylene mesh implants, is leading to increasing numbers of patient-preferred mesh-less surgical repairs for inguinal hernia, stress urinary incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse. However, current literature does not support any association between polypropylene implants and Autoimmune Syndrome Induced by Adjuvants (ASIA). This prospective pilot aims to examine autoimmunity in patients in whom ASIA is suspected, based on previously described criteria.

Objectives: To evaluate the predictive value of markers of placental insufficiency and fetal growth restriction for a composite adverse perinatal outcome (CAPO) in a small-for-gestational-age (SGA) population. We also aimed to identify profiles that discriminate fetuses as low or high risk for CAPO, and to evaluate the association of onset of labor and mode of birth with CAPO.
Methods: This was a preplanned post-hoc analysis of the DRIGITAT study, a Dutch multicenter cohort study of management strategy in 690 singleton SGA pregnancies at 32.

Objective: Early-onset fetal growth restriction (FGR) frequently requires iatrogenic preterm delivery to prevent stillbirth or the sequelae of hypoxia. A prediction model for adverse perinatal outcome could aid clinical decision-making and parental counseling. However, an adequate externally validated model, including predictors that are readily available for this purpose, is currently lacking.

Accurate point-of-care (PoC) detection of single nucleotide variants (SNVs) can support rapid and cost-effective clinical decision-making in tasks such as diagnosing pathogenic genetic variants, identifying pathogen resistance, or tracing viral lineage differentiation. Traditional nucleic acid diagnostics involving PCR and sequencing lack PoC applicability. CRISPR-based diagnostics (CRISPRdx) offer the necessary operational simplicity and ability to integrate specific nucleic acid sequence detection with isothermal amplification.
