Unfolding the layers of LGBTQ+ identity, resilience, and multicultural perspectives in Vietnam.

My personal narrative, intertwined with the theoretical acumen of Queer Theory and intersectionality framework, is used within this article as one way of underlining the critical role of lived experiences in forming an insight into LGBTQ+ identity and informing the strategies necessary to support this community. Drawing on Queer Theory, particularly the work of scholars like Jagose, which highlights the fluidity and complexity of identity, this research will analyze the intersectional challenges faced by individuals in specific non-Western regions, particularly in Southeast Asia. These experiences are examined through the employment of a reflexive thematic analysis approach, identifying recurring themes such as (1) gender nonconformity in childhood, (2) the pain of bullying and social pressures, (3) cultural transition and self-acceptance, (4) family support and unspoken understanding, and (5) interaction with LGBTQ+ Communities in Africa and the MENA Region.

Interpersonal problems as a predictor of treatment outcome in adult depression: An individual participant data meta-analysis.

Objectives: Interpersonal problems are a fundamental feature of depression, but study-level meta-analyses of their association with treatment outcome have been limited by heterogeneity in primary studies' analyses and reported results. We conducted a pre-registered individual participant data meta-analysis (IPD-MA) to examine this relationship for adult depression. This meta-analytic strategy can reduce variability by standardizing data analysis across primary studies.

The effect of anti-seizure medications on Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk and AD-related symptoms: A scoping review.

BackgroundAs the fastest-growing segment of the population, adults over 65 are at the most significant risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Older adults often use anti-seizure medications (ASMs), which can negatively impact cognitive function, mood, and behavior, mimicking AD or its symptoms. Understanding the effects of ASMs across diverse older adults is crucial, given that some ethnoracial groups are at higher risk for AD or more severe symptoms compared to non-Hispanic Whites.

Can Graduate Students Rate Personality Reliably in Psychoanalytic Treatments Using the Shedler-Westen Assessment Procedure (SWAP-200)?

Psychotherapy researchers often recruit students to code psychotherapy process and outcome variables on individual therapy sessions. To do so, graduate students read verbatim psychotherapy transcripts, listen to audio or watch video of psychotherapy sessions, and then rate process and outcome measures on these sessions. Although prior studies have investigated the reliability and validity of graduate student ratings of personality dysfunction, no current study has investigated the reliability and validity of these ratings made on the basis of psychotherapy transcripts and audio.

"I Thought I Was Going to Die": Identifying Gaps in the Intimate Partner Violence Service Provision System for Black Women.

Black women experience the highest mortality and morbidity resulting from intimate partner violence (IPV) victimization, yet there remains a dearth of culturally responsive interventions designed to meet their needs within the coordinated community response system. We employed the Theory of Help-Seeking Behavior to explicate the barriers that Black women experience when securing assistance from providers within the IPV service provision system, inclusive of the criminal legal, child protective service, shelter, healthcare, and mental healthcare systems. In-depth individual interviews were conducted with 30 people who self-identified as Black women who were help-seeking within the IPV service provision system at the time of data collection.

Playing for understanding: The impact of interactive gaming on young adults' sexual health education.

Objectives: This study examines the impact of a "choose your own adventure" (CYOA) game on improving understanding and facilitating discussions about dating, sex, and sexual health among immigrant and refugee youth who often face cultural and language barriers.

Study Design: A qualitative exploratory design was used to capture participants' experiences with the game.

Methods: Thirty-two immigrant and refugee youth aged 18-25 participated in semi-structured interviews.

The relentless consumption of fossil fuels and soaring CO emissions have plunged the world into an energy and environmental crisis. As society grapples with these challenges, the demand for clean, renewable, and sustainable energy solutions has never been more urgent. However, even though many efforts have been made in this field, there is still room for improvement concerning efficiency, material stability, and catalytic enhancement regarding kinetics and selectivity of photoelectrochemical (PEC) processes.

Weaving Caring Science into the AACN Essentials: A cross-impact analysis and resource guide.

This article describes Caring Science as a discipline-specific organizing foundation for The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education, published by the American (AACN) in 2021. Faculty from three AACN-funded schools and three Caring Science scholars used an intentional participatory engagement approach to integrate Caring Science knowledge into the AACN Essentials to educate nursing students for professional practice. These three schools and two practice partners (Kaiser Permanente and Stanford Healthcare) showcase how Caring Science and the 10 Caritas Processes® can advance progressive nursing education and practice.

Psychological interventions for preventing relapse in individuals with partial remission of depression: a systematic review and individual participant data meta-analysis.

Partial remission after major depressive disorder (MDD) is common and a robust predictor of relapse. However, it remains unclear to which extent preventive psychological interventions reduce depressive symptomatology and relapse risk after partial remission. We aimed to identify variables predicting relapse and to determine whether, and for whom, psychological interventions are effective in preventing relapse, reducing (residual) depressive symptoms, and increasing quality of life among individuals in partial remission.

Osteohistology of the unusually fast-growing theropod dinosaur Ceratosaurus.

Ceratosaurus is a large-bodied non-avian theropod dinosaur known from the Upper Jurassic Morrison Formation of North America and is remarkable both for its exceptionally fast annual growth rate and its status as the only theropod currently known with postcranial osteoderms. We describe the osteohistology of three hind limb bones, two dorsal ribs, and one osteoderm representing four individuals of Ceratosaurus. In addition to describing the tissues of these bones, we compared the annual growth rates from three individuals in our sample to those of five other ceratosaurians.

Therapist affect focus and patient outcomes in psychodynamic therapy: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis.

In this preregistered Prospero (CRD42022334071) review, the authors updated a meta-analysis review that examined the relation between therapist facilitation of patient emotional experience/expression and outcome in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Computer, manual, and backwards searches were conducted for relevant publications, and 14 independent samples of short-term dynamic psychotherapy were included in the meta-analysis. Data analysis included calculation of an overall effect size of the relationship between therapist affect focus and outcome, statistical significance, and test for homogeneity.

Background: von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) hereditary cancer syndrome is caused by mutations in the VHL tumor suppressor gene and is characterized by a predisposition to form various types of tumors, including renal cell carcinomas, hemangioblastomas, and pheochromocytomas. The protein products of the VHL gene, pVHL, are part of an ubiquitin ligase complex that tags hypoxia inducible factor alpha (HIF-α) for proteosomal degradation. pVHL has also been reported to bind to atypical protein kinase C (aPKC).

This study examined characteristics and usage patterns of students who use a campus-based food pantry at a private university. Student clients of a campus-based food pantry at a private university ( = 30). A qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews.

A Pilot Study Exploring the Relationship Between Milk Composition and Microbial Capacity in Breastfed Infants.

Background: Maternal obesity may contribute to childhood obesity in a myriad of ways, including through alterations of the infant gut microbiome. For example, maternal obesity may contribute both directly by introducing a dysbiotic microbiome to the infant and indirectly through the altered composition of human milk that fuels the infant gut microbiome. In particular, indigestible human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) are known to shape the composition of the infant gut microbiome.

Neurobiological Mechanisms Underlying Psychological Dysfunction After Brain Injuries.

Despite the presentation of similar psychological symptoms, psychological dysfunction secondary to brain injury exhibits markedly lower treatment efficacy compared to injury-independent psychological dysfunction. This gap remains evident, despite extensive research efforts. This review integrates clinical and preclinical evidence to provide a comprehensive overview of the neurobiological mechanisms underlying neuropsychological disorders, focusing on the role of key brain regions in emotional regulation across various forms of brain injuries.

Addressing the Shortage of Academic Nurse Educators: An Opportunity for Collaboration Between Academic and Healthcare Organization Leaders.

Background: The numbers of nursing school admissions and, thus, future nursing graduates are directly affected by the lack of qualified ANEs.

Methods: A consortium of diverse ANEs was formed to research these questions using the nominal group technique.

Results: Two central themes emerged from the consortium: support and collaboration.

Emergence of an Industrial Innovation Ecosystem: Renewable Energy in India.

Theories and studies of ecosystem emergence focus on macro level explanations such as government investments in research and development or those at the organizational level such as displacement of an older technological system by a new one through competition between technologies. However, mechanisms by which such shifts occur are underemphasized. This article draws on complexity theory to develop a theoretical framework to describe how emergence is generated through top down 'rules' that constrain the behavior of the system, directing it towards a desired outcome.

Complexity Control in Artificial Self-Organizing Systems: The Case of Bottom-Up versus Top-Down Intervention When Managing Pandemic Contagion.

We model an adaptive agent-based environment using selfish algorithm agents (SA-agents) that make decisions along three choice dimensions as they play the multi-round prisoner's dilemma game. The dynamics that emerge from mutual interactions among the SA-agents exhibit two collective-level properties that mirror living systems, thus making these models suitable for societal/biological simulation. The properties are: emergent intelligence and collective agency.

Efficacy of iron replacement in pulmonary hypertension: A systematic review.

The systematic review summarizes the current evidence on the efficacy and safety of iron replacement in patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH). A systematic literature search was conducted in electronic databases like PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase up to April 2024. Eligible studies investigating iron replacement therapy in pulmonary hypertension patients were included in the review.

Increased sampling reveals the complex evolution of sauropod dinosaur tooth replacement rates.

Unlike most herbivores, sauropod dinosaurs evolved simple teeth that were replaced rapidly. Sauropod craniodental morphology is conserved relative to that of many archosaur clades, but tooth breadth and replacement rate vary substantially. Two neosauropod clades, Titanosauria and Diplodocoidea, independently evolved both narrow-crowned teeth and high tooth replacement rates among a suite of other convergent features.
