Article Abstract
Many religious Jews resisted COVID-19 measures intended to reduce mortality and morbidity. This study examined Israeli religious Jews' trust levels in healthcare and religious institutions and adherence to government COVID-19 guidelines, via an online survey of 459 Israeli religious, primarily ultra-Orthodox (Haredi), Jews. Bivariate analyses found that most respondents trusted rabbis and charitable/social services regarding COVID-19 guidelines, while under half trusted the four healthcare-related entities examined. However, those trusting the healthcare entities were far likelier to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. This study has implications not only for Israeli religious Jews but for other groups where trust issues are endemic.

This study examines the coping mechanisms employed by Palestinians in Gaza during the 2023-2024 ongoing Israeli war against Gaza. Focusing on 30 refugees from Rafah, the research highlights the importance of religious faith, social support, and active coping strategies such as problem-solving, debriefing, and behavioral engagement in building resilience. Through semistructured interviews, thematic content analysis revealed that positive religious coping and social networks play a crucial role in helping participants endure the psychological challenges during the war.

This article revisits questions about the womb's role in conferring Jewish identity in Israel. Judaism is transmitted matrilineally, yet orthodox rabbis increasingly view babies from non-Jewish eggs as requiring conversion. Through interviews with 25 orthodox Jewish-Israeli gestational surrogates who see surrogacy as an act of "loving-kindness" (chesed), we explore how they navigate halakhic uncertainty surrounding the Jewish status of babies they carry when non-Jewish donor eggs are used.
