Pollen-induced asthma: diagnostic and therapeutic implications.

Eur Ann Allergy Clin Immunol

September 2025

Department of Clinical and Molecular Sciences, Università Politecnica delle Marche, Italy.

Evidence supports the hypothesis of pollen-induced asthma as a specific asthma phenotype, with defined clinical features and tailored pathways for its clinical management. The probability of diagnosis varies significantly in the pollen season, in which allergic patients are symptomatic, as compared to asymptomatic periods outside the pollen season. In this context, a novel diagnostic scheme for pollen-induced asthma has been developed.

Background: pollen is a major airborne allergen contributing to seasonal allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma worldwide. However, the specific allergenic potential of different species and their major allergens, Art v 1 and Art v 3, remains poorly understood.

Methods: This study utilized a BALB/c mouse model to comparatively assess the allergenic potential of , and Mice were sensitized and challenged with standardized pollen extracts, and allergic responses were evaluated through serum IgE levels, airway hyperreactivity, ear swelling, and histopathological lung analysis.

Characteristics of Pollen Concentration Changes in Xi'an and Their Correlation with Allergy-Related Diseases.

J Asthma Allergy

May 2025

Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery & Shaanxi Provincial Key Laboratory for Precision Diagnosis and Treatment of Otorhinolaryngology, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, People's Republic of China.

Objective: Airborne pollen is a major contributor to allergic diseases. This study investigates the correlation between airborne pollen dynamics and allergic rhinitis (AR) incidence in Xi'an (2020-2023) and compared with 1984 data for informing evidence-based prevention strategies.

Methods: The species and concentration of daily pollen in Xi'an were monitored for 4 consecutive years (2020-2023).

Background: Asthma is characterized by bronchoconstriction and airway hyperresponsiveness. Interplay of environmental and genetic factors led to significant rise in asthma prevalence in India during past decades.

Objective: This study investigated functional insights of prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2 (PTGS2) rs689466 polymorphism among 155 pollen-induced patients and 155 controls in West Bengal population, India.
