The primary goal of breast conservation surgery (BCS) is to achieve tumour-free margins. However, it is known that in 20% patients, a tumour-free margin may not be obtained. Positive margins frequently lead to re-operation and are the strongest predictors of local recurrence. We therefore evaluated the performance of ultrasound (US) and frozen section (FS) in predicting the margin status of lumpectomy specimens of ultrasound-detectable breast carcinoma patients undergoing BCS. In our prospective study on 54 patients who underwent lumpectomy, the margins were analyzed by ultrasound and frozen section. Patient-wise and margin-wise diagnostic parameters were calculated for both modalities.

Background: Breast-conserving surgery (BCS) is the primary surgical approach for patients with breast cancer. The accurate determination of surgical margins during BCS is critical for patient prognosis; however, time constraints and limitations in current pathological techniques often prevent pathologists from performing this assessment intraoperatively. The inability to reliably assess margins during surgery can lead to incomplete tumor removal and the need for additional surgeries.

Background: Adrenal ectopia is a rare condition in which adrenal tissue is found in an abnormal location, often posing diagnostic challenges. Although generally considered benign, it can present as hepatic or other organ lesions, mimicking malignant tumors. In the liver, ectopic adrenal tissue can closely resemble hepatocellular carcinoma or metastatic disease, potentially leading to unnecessary aggressive treatments such as surgery or chemotherapy.

Rationale: Struma ovarii is a rare form of mature cystic teratoma, with malignant transformation reported in approximately 5% to 10% of cases. Transformation into follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) is extremely uncommon; as a result, no standardized guidelines exist for treatment or prognosis for such cases.
Patient Concerns: A 54-year-old woman with cholelithiasis presented with upper abdominal discomfort.

Background: Anatomic ligament repair surgery, despite being a tremendous technical challenge in treating chronic lateral ankle instability patients, remains the gold standard for this condition. The fibula single-tunnel and double-tunnel techniques are effective for intraoperative reconstruction of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) and calcaneofibular ligament (CFL). However, which approach is more appropriate is a subject of debate.
