Article Abstract

Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (ARSs) have emerging roles in cancer biology. Specifically, has been linked to immunosuppressive microenvironments and poor prognosis in breast cancer. To identify other ARS genes with prognostic relevance in invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC), we applied lasso-logistic regression to 41 ARS genes using TCGA RNA-seq data and using patient vital status as the binary outcome. Survival analysis showed expression was associated with significantly reduced survival across 5 and 10 years, while showed significance at 5 years only. These findings support as a candidate prognostic biomarker in ILC and suggest broader relevance for ARS genes in breast cancer outcomes.

IBDV-SSA, a novel molecular approach for the recovery of infectious bursal disease virus whole genomes from FTA cards.

Infectious bursal disease (IBD), a highly contagious viral disease in young chickens, poses significant economic losses due to high mortality and immunosuppression. While IBD virus (IBDV) virulence is influenced by multiple genes, whole-genome sequencing (WGS) of IBDV is crucial for defining the strain pathotype and clinical profile. Flinders Technology Associates (FTA) cards are convenient for field sample collection, but their filter paper matrix can hinder nucleic acid recovery, impacting sequencing efficiency.

The sterile insect technique (SIT) is a highly effective biologically-based method for the suppression of many insect pest populations. SIT efficacy could be improved by methods of male sterilization that avoid the use of irradiation that can result in diminished fitness and mating competitiveness. Alternative sterilization methods include conditional disruption of genes for male fertility, or using their sperm-specific promoters to drive the expression of genes for lethal effectors.

Background: Dietary carbohydrates shape the composition and function of gut microbes which may potentially influence human health. It is not known if these diet-microbiome relationships are relevant to healthy American adults.

Objective: We hypothesized that intake of dietary fiber by healthy adults would be associated with the carbohydrate active enzyme (CAZyme) capacity of their gut microbiome and that this capacity would be negatively correlated with gastrointestinal (GI) inflammation.
