Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an infection of the female upper genital tract structures involving the uterus, oviducts, ovaries, and/or other surrounding pelvic organs. Clinical diagnosis of PID is of utmost importance as there is currently no single gold standard diagnostic test. Here, we present a case of a 47-year-old woman presenting with left lower quadrant abdominal and suprapubic pain who was found to have PID complicated by tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA). This case highlights the importance of a thorough history and physical exam in the diagnosis of PID.

Background: Signet ring cell (SRC) colorectal cancer is strongly associated with peritoneal metastases (PM), but the role of cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) remains uncertain due to poor prognosis. This study aimed to analyse the prognostic impact of SRCs, assess clinical characteristics, and evaluate the risk of open-close laparotomy.
Methods: This Swedish population-based study included patients with colorectal PM accepted for initial CRS and HIPEC at four national centres between 2010 and 2023.

Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) is the most prevalent urological condition in men under 50, characterized by persistent or recurrent pelvic and perineal pain, and significantly reduced quality of life. Reliable biomarkers for assessment and mechanistic understanding of pain remain limited. This retrospective case-control study consisting of 90 CP/CPPS patients (median age 29.

Aim: Vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) combines vaginal and laparoscopic techniques and is increasingly used in gynecologic surgery. Given the lack of standardized guidelines for antibiotic prophylaxis, this review aims to evaluate infection rates, current prophylactic practices, and recommendations.
Method: A literature search was conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE and the Cochrane Library using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and keywords such as "v-NOTES," "infection," "prophylaxis," and "antibiotics".

A 63-year-old woman underwent living-donor kidney transplantation three years earlier for end-stage renal disease due to diabetic nephropathy, with her younger sister as the donor. She was prescribed calcium polystyrene sulfonate for the management of hyperkalemia, which had been discontinued two years earlier. At this time, she developed recurrent abdominal and urinary symptoms, which were managed empirically with antibiotics.

Curable sexually transmitted infections (STIs) caused by the bacteria (CT) and (NG) are widespread globally. These infections are particularly dangerous for female patients, causing pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, and increased risk of HIV acquisition. Vaginal self-swab sampling can improve access to STI screening but is still subject to treatment delays due to centralized processing.
