Article Abstract

Extremities are a very common site for the development of malignant tumors. A multidisciplinary approach is essential for the proper management of extremity tumors, ensuring complete surgical resection with clear margins, proper management of tissue loss, and optimal functional recovery following reconstruction. Up to 95% of patients undergo successful limb-sparing treatments, avoiding amputation. We will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using various flaps to reconstruct upper and lower extremities. We will also explore the applications of microvascular surgery and free flaps in this context and conclude with a reflection on the timing of reconstructions.

Congenital toxoplasmosis (CT) due to Toxoplasma gondii, an apicomplexan parasite, leads to significant sequelae in children, foetal losses and neonatal deaths worldwide. This study aimed to assess the burden of CT in Burundi for the year 2020. We used epidemiological and economic data collected in major hospitals in Burundi, the Ministry of Public Health in Burundi and international peer-reviewed literature to estimate the disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) and economic costs spent on prenatal consultations, diagnosis and treatment of toxoplasmosis for pregnant women.

Hypoalbuminemia is commonly seen in patients with heart failure and is associated with worse outcomes. Multiple pathophysiologic mechanisms can contribute to low albumin levels in heart failure patients, such as malnutrition, hepatic congestion, inflammation, and protein-losing enteropathy. Hypoalbuminemia can exacerbate heart failure symptoms and contributes to pulmonary edema by reducing plasma oncotic pressure, thereby favoring fluid movement into the interstitial and alveolar spaces.

Background: Understanding the psychological, emotional, and managerial challenges faced by potential donors is essential for the proper management of the living donor evaluation process, and appropriate solutions need to be developed for these challenges. This study aimed to explore the experiences of potential liver donors who voluntarily withdrew from the living donor evaluation process.

Methods: A phenomenological qualitative design was employed.

HER2-Targeted Therapies and Cardiotoxicity: From Major Concern to Manageable Risk.

Curr Probl Cardiol

September 2025

Internal Medicine Study Program, Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, INDONESIA; Department of Internal Medicine, Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital, Surabaya, INDONESIA. Electronic address:

HER2-targeted therapies have dramatically improved outcomes for patients with HER2-positive breast cancer, but their potential for cardiotoxicity remains a critical clinical concern. Early trials reported high rates of cardiac dysfunction, particularly with concomitant anthracycline use, prompting the development of intensive cardiac monitoring strategies. However, emerging evidence suggests that most cardiotoxic events are asymptomatic, reversible, and rarely require permanent treatment discontinuation, particularly with newer agents such as antibody-drug conjugates.

Background: Spatial emanators (SE) are innovative tools for controlling indoor Aedes aegypti due to their relatively easy use and high efficacy. Large-scale implementation challenges include community adoption, particularly ensuring proper installation and timely replacement as SE efficacy wanes.

Methodology And Principal Findings: We conducted a three-arm, open-label entomological cluster randomized controlled trial with a crossover design, involving 588 households, to assess the entomological effect of the community use of metofluthrin emanators.
