Article Abstract

[Erratum to: BMB Reports 2025; 58(7): 307-312, PMID: 40495489, PMCID: PMC12313400] BMB Reports recently published the article "Modulating CD226 and PD-(L)1 pathways improves CMV-specific CD8+T cell responses in the absence of IL-2" (BMB Rep. 2025; Vol. 58, No.7, pp.307-312) by Hye-In Sim et al. The original publication inadvertently omitted two sections: ACKNOWLEDGMENTS and CONFLICT OF INTEREST. These sections have now been added to the online version. The authors and editorial office apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this omission may have caused to the authors and readers. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This work was supported by an intramural grant from KIST and Asan Medical Center (2022IP0092-1) and by grants from the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) (RS-2024-00338729 to H. Jin and RS-2024-00337093 to Y. Park). CONFLICT OF INTEREST All authors declare that they have no competing interests.

This study investigated the expression of immune checkpoint molecules on CD4 and CD4 NKT cell subpopulations throughout healthy pregnancy trimesters and in non-pregnant condition to understand their role in maternal-fetal immunotolerance. Using flow cytometry, we found that CD4 NKT cells significantly outnumbered CD4 NKT cells in all investigated groups. In the case of the immune checkpoint molecules, PD-1 receptor expression was significantly lower in CD4 NKT cells compared to CD4 counterpart cells only in non-pregnant women, while the PD-L1 ligand expression on CD4 NKT cells significantly decreased in the third trimester.

Glioblastoma (GBM) frequently expresses cytomegalovirus (CMV) antigens, making CMV-specific CD8+T cells attractive candidates for adoptive immunotherapy due to their longevity and inherent tumor reactivity. However, these T cells encounter significant immunosuppressive challenges within the GBM microenvironment, including cytokine scarcity and checkpointmediated inhibition, which limit their proliferation and function. Here, we assessed strategies to overcome these limitations by modulating immune checkpoint pathways.

T-cell immunoglobulin and ITIM domain as a target in combo anti-PD-(L)1 cancer therapy.

Immunoregulatory roles of T-cell immunoglobulin and ITIM domain (TIGIT) in solid tumors, and its interactions with other checkpoints is a focus of research in cancer immunotherapy. The increased activity of TIGIT/CD155 promotes dendritic cell (DC) tolerance and CD8 T cell exclusion/energy/exhaustion. Increased TIGIT activity also hampers natural killer (NK) cell function and increases immunosuppressive activity of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and regulatory T cells (Tregs), with the latter serving as a key cell type to pursue TIGIT regulatory effects in tumor immune ecosystem.

CD73 promotes the maturation of murine NK cells and their survival in the tumor microenvironment.

Natural Killer (NK) cells are crucial in recognizing and eliminating tumor cells, making them pivotal in antitumor responses. Adenosine, the product of ATP hydrolysis mediated by CD39 and CD73 ectonucleotidases, has been reported to reduce the proliferation and maturation of NK cells. In this study, we investigate the expression of CD73 in NK cells and its impact on maturation, phenotype, survival, and function.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has become a global health crisis, eliciting varying severity in infected individuals. This study aimed to explore the immune profiles between moderate and severe COVID-19 patients experiencing a cytokine storm and their association with mortality. This study highlights the role of PD-1/PD-L1 and the TIGIT/CD226/CD155/CD112 pathways in COVID-19 patients.
