Neural crest stem cells (NCSCs) compose a highly migratory, multipotent, stem cell population arising from the neural plate border of the embryonic ectoderm. Investigating the development of NCSCs is critical in understanding both embryonic development and abnormal events that underlie neurocristopathies. Suggested seeding densities in in vitro human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) differentiation protocols, varying between 10,000 cells/cm2 and 200,000 cells/cm2, demonstrate a lack of consensus on the optimal conditions to obtain NCSCs.

Background & objectives Cancer stem cells influence aggressive biology, metastasis, recurrence, and treatment resistance in various malignancies. The transcription factors SRY-box transcription factor 2 (SOX2), Octamer-binding transcription factor 4 (OCT4), and Homeobox protein NANOG (NANOG) are prime controllers of the signalling circuit required for embryonic stem cell pluripotency. Salivary gland tumours exhibit diverse biological and clinical behaviours ranging from a benign, innocuous nature to highly aggressive tumours, with a great tendency for recurrence, and poor prognosis.

Gastric cancer is the fourth most common cancer globally and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Peru. Current synthetic treatments often fail to distinguish cancerous cells from healthy cells, resulting in severe side effects and drug resistance. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the chloroform fraction of Dracontium spruceanum bulb (DSBCl) on cancer stem cells (CSCs) from AGS and KATO III gastric cancer cell lines, which represent primary and metastatic cancers.

Background: culture of preimplantation embryos may increase the risk of long-term effects, such as obesity and metabolic diseases later in life in the offspring. While the long-term consequences of low-protein diets during early development have been reported in the context of DOHaD (Developmental Origins of Health and Disease) theory, the relationship between nutrient supply via autophagy during preimplantation development and these long-term effects remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to determine whether autophagy activity during culture of mouse embryos contributes to long-term effects, using chloroquine (CQ), a known autophagy inhibitor.
