Objective: The proliferation of access to generative AI tools has the potential to radically alter the process of writing manuscripts. This report evaluates NotebookLM as a tool for conducting a literature review in an ethical and responsible manner.
Method: We uploaded 22 relevant papers from the Army Study to Assess Risk and Resilience in Servicemembers (Army STARRS) to NotebookLM and asked questions pertaining to a hypothetical research paper. We investigated the capabilities, limitations, ethical considerations, and privacy implications of using NotebookLM and engaged in a dialogue with the tool through a series of user-written prompts and AI responses.
Results: We found that the variability and utility of responsesweres determined in large part by the ability to write meaningful prompts and the extent to which new prompts provided additional information. Investigating how NotebookLM identified key findings enhanced our prompt generation and subsequently the iterative refinement of output to produce information relevant to our mock literature review.
Conclusions: The utility of NotebookLM will likely vary by the quality of source material uploaded into the program and the researcher's familiarity with prompt generation. There are a number of benefits and drawbacks to using this tool as a search engine or conversation partner. Ethical considerations and privacy implications of using NotebookLM are discussed.

Aim: To evaluate the perceived usefulness of a flipped-classroom model that integrated podcasts generated using an artificial intelligence (AI) tool in undergraduate dental education.
Materials And Methods: This within-subject, quasi-experimental study was conducted at a Swiss dental school. A cohort of 49 clinical-year dental students participated in eight conventional seminars and two flippedclassroom seminars, each covering a distinct clinical topic.

Purpose: This study explores the alignment between themes identified by Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered tools and those from a traditional, manual scoping review, focusing on generative AI's role in streamlining time-intensive research processes.
Materials And Methods: Thematic findings from a human-driven scoping review on peer support specialists in medical settings for opioid use disorder (OUD) were compared with outputs from NotebookLM, UTVERSE, and Gemini. Fifteen peer-reviewed articles were uploaded to each AI tool, and a standardized prompt directed the generative AI to identify themes using only the provided articles, which were then compared to the human-coded findings.

Purpose: Degenerative spinal diseases often require complex, patient-specific treatment, presenting a compelling challenge for artificial intelligence (AI) integration into clinical practice. While existing literature has focused on ChatGPT-4o performance in individual spine conditions, this study compares ChatGPT-4o, a traditional large language model (LLM), against NotebookLM, a novel retrieval-augmented model (RAG-LLM) supplemented with North American Spine Society (NASS) guidelines, for concordance with all five published NASS guidelines for degenerative spinal diseases.
Methods: A total of 118 questions from NASS guidelines regarding five degenerative spinal conditions were presented to ChatGPT-4o and NotebookLM.
