Introduction: Portal hypertension (PH) drives the progression of liver cirrhosis to decompensation and death. Hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) measurement is the standard of PH quantification, and HVPG≥10 mmHg defines clinically significant PH (CSPH). We performed proteomics-based serum profiling to search for a proteomic signature of CSPH in patients with compensated advanced chronic liver disease (cACLD).

Congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) are a spectrum of abnormalities affecting morphogenesis of the kidneys and other structures of the urinary tract. Bilateral renal agenesis (BRA) is the most severe presentation of CAKUT. Loss of either nephronectin (NPNT) or its receptor ITGA8 leads to failure of metanephric kidney development with resulting renal agenesis in murine models.

Nephronectin (NPNT) is an extracellular matrix protein in the glomerular basement membrane that is produced by podocytes and is important for the integrity of the glomerular filtration barrier. Upregulated transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) and altered NPNT are seen in different glomerular diseases. TGF-β downregulates NPNT and upregulates NPNT-targeting microRNAs (miRs).
