Article Abstract

Background: Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) significantly impairs functional capacity and quality of life (QoL) due to reduced lower limb perfusion. This study evaluates the effectiveness of a nurse-led intervention program incorporating dietary counseling, exercise, and education on functional capacity and QoL in PAD patients.

Methods: A pretest/posttest-controlled design was employed with 30 participants (15 experimental, 15 control) recruited from KG Hospital, Coimbatore, India. The intervention included nutritional supplementation, home-based walking, Buerger Allen exercises, and educational sessions over six months. Outcomes were assessed using the Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI), 6-Minute Walk Test (6MWT), Walking Impairment Questionnaire (WIQ), and VascuQoL-25 at baseline, three months, and six months.

Results: The experimental group showed significant improvements in ABI (0.84 vs. 0.65, < 0.0001), 6MWT distance (278.87 vs. 186.93 meters, < 0.0001), and WIQ scores (all < 0.01) at six months compared to controls. Biochemical markers, including fasting blood sugar (FBS) and Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), also improved significantly. No adverse events were reported, indicating the intervention's safety.

Conclusion: These findings suggest that nurse-led interventions are effective in enhancing functional capacity and metabolic health in PAD patients, supporting their integration into clinical practice.

Mixed-integer (MI) quadratic models subject to quadratic constraints, known as All- Quadratic MI Programs, constitute a challenging class of NP-complete optimization problems. The particular scenario of unbounded integers defines a subclass that holds the distinction of being even undecidable. This complexity suggests a possible soft-spot for Mathematical Programming (MP) techniques, which otherwise constitute a good choice to treat MI problems.

The hallmarks of mechanosensitive ion channels have been observed for half a century in various cell lines, although their mechanisms and molecular identities remained unknown until recently. Identification of the bona fide mammalian mechanosensory Piezo channels resulted in an explosion of research exploring the translation of mechanical cues into biochemical signals and dynamic cell morphology responses. One of the Piezo isoforms - Piezo1 - is integral in the erythrocyte (red blood cell; RBC) membrane.

Embodied intelligence in soft robotics offers unprecedented capabilities for operating in uncertain, confined, and fragile environments that challenge conventional technologies. However, achieving true embodied intelligence-which requires continuous environmental sensing, real-time control, and autonomous decision-making-faces challenges in energy management and system integration. We developed deformation-resilient flexible batteries with enhanced performance under magnetic fields inherently present in magnetically actuated soft robots, with capacity retention after 200 cycles improved from 31.

DNA with high storage density can serve as an alternative storage medium to respond to the global explosion of data growth and become a powerful personal storage memory if an integrated compact device can store and handle large-scale data. Here, we incorporate a DNA cassette tape with 5.5 × 10 addressable data partitions (addressing rate up to 1570 partitions per second), a DNA loading capacity of 28.
