Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is an acute immune-mediated inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculopathy of the peripheral nerves often provoked by a preceding upper respiratory or gastrointestinal infection. Guillain-Barré Syndrome usually presents with symmetrical lower limb ascending weakness and decreased deep tendon reflexes. Here, we describe a case of an uncommon presentation of GBS presenting with upper extremity neuropathy and cranial nerve palsy in a 36-year-old Caucasian Army pilot.

Epigenetic processes, such as DNA methylation, show potential as biological markers and mechanisms underlying gene-environment interplay in the prediction of mental health and other brain-based phenotypes. However, little is known about how peripheral epigenetic patterns relate to individual differences in the brain itself. An increasingly popular approach to address this is by combining epigenetic and neuroimaging data; yet, research in this area is almost entirely comprised of cross-sectional studies in adults.

Effect of a treatment strategy utilising golimumab, methotrexate and corticosteroids versus methotrexate and corticosteroids in early, untreated psoriatic arthritis (GOLMePsA): a single-centre, double-blind, parallel-group, randomised controlled trial.

Lancet Rheumatol

September 2025

National Institute for Health and Care Research Leeds Biomedical Research Centre, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Leeds, UK; Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine, University of Leeds, Leeds, UK. Electronic address:

Background: The optimal treatment strategy in early psoriatic arthritis remains unknown. We aimed to assess whether the combination of methotrexate and golimumab plus corticosteroids is superior to methotrexate plus corticosteroids in reducing disease activity in early, untreated psoriatic arthritis.

Methods: We did a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, single-centre study in adults with treatment-naïve active psoriatic arthritis.

46,XY/46,XY Chimerism: Prenatal Presentation and Postnatal Outcome.

Mol Genet Genomic Med

September 2025

Laboratory Medicine and Genetics, Trillium Health Partners, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

Background: Human chimerism is rare, and most prevalent with discordant chromosomal sex. We report a male 46,XY/46,XY chimera, born through a spontaneously conceived pregnancy to a healthy 32-year-old G1P0 Indian, African, and Scottish female and her 34-year-old healthy Chinese partner. The prenatal presentation and postnatal outcomes are described.

Biliverdin reductase-A is a key modulator in insulin signaling and metabolism.

Trends Endocrinol Metab

September 2025

Department of Biochemical Sciences 'A. Rossi-Fanelli, ' Sapienza University of Rome, Piazzale A. Moro 5, 00185, Rome, Italy. Electronic address:

Biliverdin reductase-A (BVRA) is a pleiotropic enzyme traditionally known for its antioxidant role in the heme degradation pathway. Recent findings have redefined BVRA as a master regulator of insulin signaling, acting as a kinase, scaffold, and redox-sensitive integrator of metabolic cues. BVRA modulates key nodes of the insulin cascade and sustains mitochondrial and synaptic function.
