Controversy about seasonal affective disorder lies in the poor match between its definition and the available screening methods, as well as little knowledge about the predictive value of specific seasonal symptoms assessed by those methods. We examined whether the overall score as well as sub-domains of the seasonal pattern assessment questionnaire can predict seasonal changes in mood, sleep, appetite, weight, and physical activity in a one-year prospective study. In a sample of 336 Icelandic residents, we administered an online questionnaire once in each season, including the seasonal pattern assessment questionnaire, the depression, anxiety, and stress scale, the Questionnaire on Cravings for Sweet or Rich Foods, the Bergen Insomnia scale, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, and surveyed body height and weight. We compared participants with at least moderate seasonal changes to a control group of participants without seasonal changes. Only food cravings and physical activity showed seasonal fluctuations. In none of the domains were the seasonal fluctuations predictable by summer-time self-reported seasonal symptoms, neither in terms of general seasonal changes nor in the specific domain. While the overall low rate of seasonal changes limits conclusions, this study adds to the literature that raises doubts about the concept of the predictability of seasonal changes by self-reports.

Understanding the intricate relationship between land use/land cover (LULC) transformations and land surface temperature (LST) is critical for sustainable urban planning. This study investigates the spatiotemporal dynamics of LULC and LST across Delhi, India, using thermal data from Landsat 7 (2001), Landsat 5 (2011) and Landsat 8 (2021) resampled to 30-m spatial resolution, during the peak summer month of May. The study aims to target three significant aspects: (i) to analyse and present LULC-LST dynamics across Delhi, (ii) to evaluate the implications of LST effects at the district level and (iii) to predict seasonal LST trends in 2041 for North Delhi district using the seasonal auto-regressive integrated moving average (SARIMA) time series model.

The Atlantification of the Arctic is driving a northward habitat shift of many cetaceans, including sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus). As Arctic warming continues to decrease sea ice extent and contributes to the change in species distributions, it is crucial to study how the distribution patterns, habitat, and the demographic structure of sperm whale populations may continue to change. In this study, we assess the temporal presence of echolocating sperm whales on the continental slope southwest of the Svalbard archipelago and compare it with acoustic backscatter and temperature as a proxy for biomass.

Plant seeds have evolved diverse dormancy types and regulatory mechanisms to adapt to environmental conditions and seasonal changes. As a commonly used rootstock for cultivated pears, faces challenges in seedling production and large-scale cultivation due to limited understanding of seed dormancy mechanisms. In this study, we report that seeds exhibit non-deep physiological dormancy, with seed coats playing a pivotal regulatory role.
