Purpose: The aim of the presented work is to develop a diffusion instability measure (DIM) that can be used in quality assurance.
Methods: Single-shot, spin-echo, echo-planar imaging HARDI diffusion data sets were collected on a spherical silicone oil phantom with 64 different diffusion directions on a 3T Philips Achieva and a 3T Siemens Cima.X scanner with similar acquisition protocols. A few data sets on the Philips Achieva included concurrent magnetic field monitoring. A correlation coefficient matrix among the diffusion directions for each data set was calculated, and subsequently, one minus its eigenratio was defined as the DIM.
Results: The DIM values ranged between about 5000 and 280 000 ppm across the data sets. The worst and best image quality-and hence the highest and lowest DIM values-were observed for b-value = 4000 s/mm on the Philips Achieva and for b-value = 500 s/mm on the Siemens Cima.X without concurrent field monitoring, respectively.
Conclusion: DIM is a sensitive tool for evaluating image quality in HARDI scans on a quantitative basis. It is simple to implement without the need for hardware or software modifications.

Oral cancer is a major global health burden, ranking sixth in prevalence, with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) being the most common type. Importantly, OSCC is often diagnosed at late stages, underscoring the need for innovative methods for early detection. The oral microbiome, an active microbial community within the oral cavity, holds promise as a biomarker for the prediction and progression of cancer.

Obesity medications are recommended in England with legislation necessitating their availability. However, given the number of people who meet clinically approved eligibility criteria, funding these medications and associated support services may limit efficacy at a population health level. This study aimed to assess the commissioning and availability of services and obesity medications across England.

In recent AI-driven disease diagnosis, the success of models has depended mainly on extensive data sets and advanced algorithms. However, creating traditional data sets for rare or emerging diseases presents significant challenges. To address this issue, this study introduces a direct-self-attention Wasserstein generative adversarial network (DSAWGAN) designed to improve diagnostic capabilities in infectious diseases with limited data availability.

Emotional crying is a complex and multifaceted expression that is frequently observed in humans. Its communicative effects have been recently studied in more detail. However, many studies focus on just one specific feature of emotional crying, most often emotional tears, neglecting the complex nature of the expression.

Pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (pAML) is a heterogeneous malignancy driven by diverse cytogenetic mutations. While identification of cytogenetic lesions improved risk stratification, prognostication remains inadequate with 30% of standard-risk patients experiencing relapse within 5 years. To deeply characterize pAML heterogeneity and identify poor outcome-associated blast cell profiles, we performed an analysis on 708,285 cells from 164 bone marrow biopsies of 95 patients and 11 healthy controls.
