Article Abstract

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began in Korea in January 2020, strict public health measures initially influenced antibiotic utilization, with studies showing mixed results. The emergence of the Omicron variant in November 2021 led to relaxed measures and a transition to endemicity. Therefore, this study evaluates the impact of both early pandemic measures and subsequent shifts in epidemic control strategies on antibiotic utilization. We performed an interrupted time series analysis of changes in antibiotic utilization patterns over time based on two periods; the first case of COVID-19 in Korea in January 2020, and the number of COVID-19 cases increased rapidly in January 2022. There were immediate decreases in antibiotic utilization with the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the period of endemic, a significant upswing in antibiotic utilization was observed. These changes occurred more abundantly in medical institutions other than in tertiary hospitals. In conclusion, the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent transition to endemicity significantly influenced antibiotic utilization patterns in Korea.

Objectives: Acute pyelonephritis (APN) is a common diagnosis among patients presenting to the Emergency Department (ED). It is treated by empiric antibiotics within the ED. With a rise in antimicrobial resistance globally, it is unknown whether patients are being managed with empiric antibiotics that are appropriate for the causative organisms of APN.

Hypersensitivity reactions to quinolones (QHRs) have been increasing in frequency, thus classifying them as the second most frequently implicated class of antibiotics in hypersensitivity reactions (HRs). It is noteworthy that quinolones (Qs) have been observed to predominantly trigger immediate hypersensitivity reactions (IHRs). These reactions are categorized as either IgE-mediated or non-IgE-mediated, attributable to the off-target occupation of the recently described receptor, Mas-related G-protein coupled receptor member X2 (MRGPRX2), on effector cells.

This study aimed to evaluate the quality of multidisciplinary team (MDT) management in healthcare-associated infection (HAI) prevention and control, as well as its impact on multidrug-resistant organism (MDRO) infections. This was a retrospective, single-center study with a small sample size. A total of 400 patients admitted to the Departments of Critical Care Medicine or Orthopedics between January 2022 and December 2023 were divided into a control group (n = 200, receiving conventional HAI management) and an experimental group (n = 200, undergoing MDT management).

Background: Previous trials have demonstrated increased 5-year risks for adverse clinical events after coronary artery implantation of poly-l-lactic acid-based bioresorbable scaffolds (BRS) compared with cobalt chromium (CoCr) everolimus-eluting stents (EES).

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the 5-year clinical outcomes of the novel sirolimus-eluting NeoVas BRS compared with CoCr EES.

Methods: A total of 560 patients with single de novo native coronary artery lesions with reference vessel diameter 2.

The derivation of defect-engineered metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) from industrial waste simultaneously mitigates environmental pollution, reduces MOF synthesis costs, and enhances adsorption performance. Herein, this study demonstrates a sustainable strategy for the resourceful synthesis of iron-based MOF s-MIL-100(Fe) using galvanizing pickling waste liquor (80.5 wt.
