Article Abstract

This study assessed the direct costs of using Palivizumab for RSV prevention in the Foggia District, Italy, during the 2023/2024 season, and explored the cost savings coming from reallocating resources to Nirsevimab in a universal RSV program. Switching from Palivizumab to Nirsevimab could protect 57.85 % of newborns per season. Considering also hospitalization expenses, coverage reaches 46.4 % of infants, or 66.2 % if unspecified bronchiolitis is included. These results suggest notable cost savings and greater coverage, supporting a universal RSV initiative.

Introduction: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) remain prevalent among young and hard-to-reach Italian populations. Several factors can be identified in this phenomenon despite prevention initiatives: there is little awareness among users of the different types of infection and how to prevent them; also, users often misunderstand how to use prevention and treatment services. This study aims to investigate determinants of STI prevention service utilisation among these population groups in Foggia district, Italy, incorporating healthcare worker and non-governmental organisation (NGO) and community association perspectives.

The overview effect and patient care in psychiatry.

The 'overview effect' was described by astronauts who saw the earth from space and found this gave them a very different perspective. This effect is a shift in worldview, and it has been suggested that politicians be sent to space to change their narrow perspectives. In a similar vein, it is crucial that psychiatrists have an overview of their patients so that their perspectives on patient care enable them to deal with the patient from different angles.

Introduction: Pain is a critically important outcome in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD); however, it is infrequently and inconsistently reported in clinical trials. This study aimed to validate the Standardized Outcomes in Nephrology-Polycystic Kidney Disease (SONG-PKD) Pain measure, which includes 3 items related to pain (frequency, severity, and impact on life participation) measured on a 5-point Likert scale, in adults with ADPKD.

Methods: A total of 316 adults with ADPKD from 21 countries participated online.
