Article Abstract

The operational efficiency of the main steam pipelines at thermal power plants is reduced due to several factors, including operating temperature, pressure, service life, and the frequency of process shutdowns, which contribute to the degradation of heat-resistant steels. The study aims to identify the features of changes in the sizes of grains and carbides along their boundaries, as well as mechanical properties (hardness, strength, plasticity and fracture toughness) along the wall thickness of both pipes in the initial state and after operation with block shutdowns. Preliminary electrolytic hydrogenation of specimens (before tensile tests in air) showed even more clearly the negative consequences of operational degradation of steel. The degradation of steel was also assessed using fracture toughness (). The value of for operated steel with a smaller number of shutdowns decreased by 32-33%, whereas with a larger number of shutdowns, its decrease in the vicinity of the outer and inner surfaces of the pipe reached 65 and 61%, respectively. Fractographic signs of more intense degradation of steel after a greater number of shutdowns were manifested at the stage of spontaneous fracture of specimens by changing the mechanism from transgranular cleavage to intergranular, which indicated a decrease in the cohesive strength of grain boundaries.

Tires are complex polymeric materials composed of rubber elastomers (both natural and synthetic), fillers, steel wire, textiles, and a range of antioxidant and curing systems. These constituents are distributed differently among the various tire parts, which are classified based on their function and proximity to the rim. This study presents a rapid and sensitive approach for the characterization of tire components using mild thermal desorption/pyrolysis (TDPy) coupled to direct analysis in real-time mass spectrometry (DART-MS).

As the most dangerous mycotoxin, aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) has caused some food safety issues to be concerned. In this study, a simultaneous detection and degradation method towards AFB1 was established. Covalent-organic frameworks (COFs) were firstly synthesized and directly in situ deposited on the stainless-steel mesh, which would trigger the free-radical polymerization of acrylamide to form a hydrogel coating.

Anode-free sulfide-based all-solid-state lithium metal batteries (ASSLMBs), which eliminate the need for a lithium metal anode during fabrication, offer superior energy density, enhanced safety, and simplified manufacturing. Their performance is largely influenced by the interfacial properties of the current collectors. Although previous studies have investigated the degradation of sulfide electrolytes on commonly used copper (Cu) and stainless steel (SS) current collectors, the impact of spontaneously formed surface oxides, such as copper oxide (CuO/CuO) and chromium oxide (CrO), on interfacial stability remains underexplored.

Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, National University of Singapore, Singapore, 117585, Republic of Singapore.

Electrochemical CO reduction reaction (CORR) can enable the production of fuels and chemicals from CO emissions. Direct flue gas conversion can address the emissions from hard-to-abate sectors, including cement, steel, and power generation industries. Such integration with SCORR can also decarbonize the petrochemical industry and eliminate separation and purification steps.

Supermartensitic stainless steels (SMSS) reinforced with a percolated boride network offer exceptional corrosion and wear resistance, making them well-suited for oil and gas applications. However, hydrogen embrittlement (HE) poses significant challenges in offshore environments. This study examines HE in SMSS with boron additions ranging from 0.
