5-HT6R-ATR-primary cilia network supports morphine-related memory extinction in the medial prefrontal cortex.

iScience

September 2025

College of Forensic Medicine, Key Laboratory of National Health Commission for Forensic Medicine, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an 710061, Shaanxi, China.

Drug addiction involves pathological learning and memory with serious personal and societal effects. Primary cilia on the cell surface are crucial for signal transduction. The 5-HT6R, highly localized in primary cilia, is linked to cognitive and emotional disorders, but its role in morphine-related reward memory is unclear.

Target sequence capture informs generic delimitation and hybridization in the tribe Lasiopetaleae (Malvaceae).

The tribe Lasiopetaleae (Malvaceae subfamily Byttnerioideae) consists of nine genera largely distributed in Australia. Boundaries between genera have historically been contentious, with many species being described in one genus and variously transferred to others. Previous phylogenetic studies using morphology and plastid DNA have mostly resolved relationships within the tribe except for a group of genera allied to Lasiopetalum.

Activation of CISD2 as a protective strategy against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity.

Background: Cardiotoxicity of doxorubicin, a chemotherapy medication, remains the most dangerous side effect. CISD2 plays a critical role during cardiac aging.

Objectives: We use a potent CISD2 activator, hesperetin, to ameliorate doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity by upregulating CISD2 in mice.

When recalling past events, patterns of gaze position and neural activity resemble those observed during the original experience. We hypothesized that these two phenomena, known as gaze reinstatement and neural reactivation, are linked through a common process that underlies the reinstatement of past experiences during memory retrieval. Here, we tested this proposal based on the viewing and recall of a narrative movie, which we assessed through functional magnetic resonance imaging, deep learning-based gaze prediction, and language modeling of spoken recall.

The strength of neural reinstatement, a correlate of episodic memory retrieval, reportedly reflects the amount and fidelity of mnemonic content and is weaker in older than younger adults, especially for scene memoranda. Based on evidence that age-related declines in cortical thickness and volume contribute to age-related cognitive decline, we analyzed functional magnetic resonance imaging data acquired from healthy young and older adults to examine relationships between cortical thickness, cortical volume, age, and scene-related reinstatement in 3 cortical regions implicated in scene processing: the parahippocampal place area, medial place area, and occipital place area. A "reinstatement index" was estimated from functional magnetic resonance imaging data collected during tests of source memory for scene images, and multiple regression analyses were employed to examine the effects of the variables of interest on scene reinstatement.
