Article Abstract

The 2024-2025 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Research and Graduate Affairs Committee (or the Committee) was charged with creating an updated definition of research and scholarship for use by the Academy, performing an audit of AACP activities to identify opportunities to advance or support research and scholarship as defined by the Committee, and developing metrics for these programs. The Committee met its first charge by providing updated definitions for both research and scholarship, recognizing that each is essential to the advancement of the pharmacy profession and equally important to the Academy. To fulfil its second charge, the Committee identified opportunities to add content and objectives related to research, scholarship, and graduate education to several AACP programs. For many of these programs, the Committee noted that AACP could expand eligibility, adjust program requirements, or reimagine marketing materials to enable or increase participation by graduate students, researchers, and basic scientists. The Committee emphasized the importance of including more content related to science, research, and graduate education in the AACP annual meeting, including the creation of a focused research and scholarship track. The Committee also identified opportunities for AACP to support research, scholarship, and research training through new programs. In addressing the third charge, the Committee reviewed AACP activities and programs related to research and scholarship and proposed outcomes and metrics that could be used to regularly evaluate these programs to ensure they are meeting their intended goals. In its call to action, the Committee affirms that a strong foundation in research and scholarship for all members of the academy is needed to advance the tripartite mission of higher education. The Committee proposes 12 recommendations for consideration by AACP and 2 suggestions for consideration by colleges and schools of pharmacy.

Aim: To explore the potential axiological shift in nursing, drawing upon a critical reading of the new definition of 'nursing' published by the International Council of Nurses (ICN) in June 2025, and to articulate its implications for research and doctoral education.

Design: Critical discussion paper.

Methods: Guided by critical inquiry and emancipatory nursing knowledge development approaches, this paper deploys retroductive analysis to interrogate the axiological commitments that inform and are generated by the 2025 ICN definition and how it relates to nursing research.

Multiple Demographic, Lifestyle, and Biological Factors Associated With Brain Iron Deposition in the Basal Ganglia: A Comprehensive Analysis of 25,980 UK Biobank Participants.

Brain Behav

September 2025

Key Laboratory of Endocrine Glucose & Lipids Metabolism and Brain Aging, Ministry of Education; Department of Radiology, Shandong Provincial Hospital, Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University, Jinan, Shandong Province, China.

Background: The susceptibility values of the basal ganglia reflect the health status of these nuclei. We aimed to explore the associations between various demographic characteristics, lifestyle factors, and biological factors that have the potential to contribute to magnetic susceptibility and investigate the comprehensive impact of these multiple factors on basal ganglia susceptibility values.

Methods: We included 25,980 participants from the UK Biobank.

BACKGROUND Uveal melanoma is the most common primary intraocular malignancy in adults, often diagnosed late in resource-limited settings. The diagnosis is made through a combination of clinical ophthalmologic examination, B-mode ultrasound, and histopathological study. This report details a case of a 67-year-old woman with progressive vision loss and ocular pain due to an inferomedial uveal melanoma to highlight therapeutic limitations from delayed diagnosis.

Objective: Vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) promotes significant metabolic improvements, though the underlying molecular mechanisms are not fully understood. Emerging evidence suggests that small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) contribute to metabolic improvements post VSG, such as improved fatty liver disease or adipose tissue function; however, it is unclear how different organ-specific sEVs interact with various metabolic parameters. The objective of this study is to establish the role of organ-specific sEVs in the metabolic improvements post VSG.

Background: A clear understanding of minimal clinically important difference (MCID) and substantial clinical benefit (SCB) is essential for effectively implementing patient-reported outcome measurements (PROMs) as a performance measure for total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Since not achieving MCID and SCB may reflect suboptimal surgical benefit, the primary aim of this study was to use machine learning to predict patients who may not achieve the threshold-based outcomes (i.e.
