The Early Paleozoic radiation of diverse animal life is commonly connected to a well-ventilated global ocean. Yet the oxygenation history of Paleozoic deep oceans remains debated. Using thallium (Tl) isotope ratios in deep-marine mudrocks, we reconstruct the history of deep marine oxygenation from ~485 to 380 million years ago.

The 5th International Polar Year (IPY-5) in 2032-2033 represents an important next step in the legacy of the oldest continuous climate research program created by humanity, which intentionally began during a Solar Maximum with IPY-1 in 1882-1883, following the Little Ice Age. Current IPY-5 planning by the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) and Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) is "From IPY-4 to IPY-5" with scope since 2007-2008, considering relevant large-scale polar process, international activities and UN decades. Additionally, there are essential features to incorporate into IPY-5 planning with Indigenous knowledge as well as next-generation leadership along with international science connections across the United Nations, involving core integration of data system and Earth-Sun system research, which accelerated with the International Geophysical Year (IGY) in 1957-1958 that was renamed from IPY-3.

The study of the connection between the teeth and the jaw is important for understanding the palaeobiology of vertebrates, but inconsistent terminology and incomplete sampling have made it difficult to assess the evolutionary significance of some of the related characters. Among archosauromorphs, tooth attachment in dinosaurs and crocodylians is nearly identical to that of mammals in featuring a ligamentous connection (gomphosis), whereas closely related forms appear to have teeth fused to the jaws (ankylosis), as in most other amniotes. Hence, studying tooth attachment of stem-archosaurs is pivotal to characterize the main shifts in tooth attachment seen in the lineage.

Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is the largest reduced carbon reservoir in modern oceans. Its dynamics regulate marine communities and atmospheric CO levels, whereas C compositions track ecosystem structure and autotrophic metabolism. However, the geologic history of marine DOC remains largely unconstrained, limiting our ability to mechanistically reconstruct coupled ecological and biogeochemical evolution.

The Whole Well-Being Model offers a layered framework for understanding and supporting health across multiple levels, from individual experience to systems and the environment. As terms like whole health, whole person health, and integrative health gain traction, their overlapping use can create confusion. This model brings clarity by organizing existing domains, from integrative health to planetary health, into a coherent structure.
