This paper introduces a novel design of a three-layer slot waveguide structure, serving as a polarization-independent optical power splitter based on Si/SiN/Si materials. This design addresses the common challenges of structural complexity and high loss typically encountered in most polarization-independent optical power splitters. It achieves successful 1 × 2 power splitting for 1550 nm optical signals. The refractive index of the SiN layer is tunable through the ion-assisted deposition method, which enables the alignment of output image points for both transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) modes, thereby achieving polarization-independent performance. The width of the Multimode Interference (MMI) region is reasonably selected to balance between device size and loss ensuring optimal performance. Additionally, an optimized tapered waveguide design has been incorporated to effectively reduce insertion loss. The device is simulated using the Frequency Domain Finite Difference (FDE) method and the Eigenmode Expansion (EME) method. Simulation results show that the coupling region of the device measures 4 μm×15.6 μm, with insertion losses for both TE and TM polarization modes below 0.034 dB at 1550 nm, and below 0.175 dB over a 100 nm bandwidth. This optical power splitter design holds significant potential for future integrated optical path applications.

A multi-indicator framework was developed to resolve multi-source pollution in highly urbanized rivers, demonstrated in the Qinhuai River Basin, Nanjing, China. Water quality index (WQI) stratification was integrated with dissolved organic matter (DOM) fluorescence components, hydrochemical ions, and conventional parameters and analyzed using positive matrix factorization (PMF). Correlation analysis further elucidated source compositions and interactions.

Polymorphic two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) exhibit diverse properties for optoelectronic applications. Here, utilizing phase-engineered MoTe as a prototypical platform, we comprehensively explored its ultrafast and nonlinear optical properties to complete the fundamental framework of phase-dependent optical phenomena in 2D TMDCs. Starting with the phase-selective synthesis of 2H- and 1T'-MoTe with tailored thicknesses, we revealed their distinct photocarrier relaxation mechanisms using intensive power-/temperature-/thickness-dependent transient absorption spectra (TAS).

Introduction: This study aims to provide a comprehensive review of the application of eye-tracking technology in construction safety, establishing a theoretical foundation and benchmark to guide future research and innovation in the field.
Method: This study identified 116 relevant papers published between 2003 and 2023 indexed by Web of Science (WoS), Scopus, and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Library. The analysis of the 116 papers revealed trends about the dates of the publication of the papers, the locations of the research, the journals and conference proceedings that published the studies, and the extent of the collaboration between authors, which indicate that eye-tracking technology has become an important tool to enhance construction safety.

Topic: To compare the outcomes of surgical approaches to correct ametropia following cataract and lens surgery.
Clinical Relevance: Despite advancements in the field of biometry and intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation formulas, complete elimination of refractive surprises following cataract and lens surgery is impossible. Preferred Practice Patterns acknowledges the possibility of refractive surprise following cataract surgery; however, no recommendations regarding the preferred treatment have been given.

The coupling of lasers plays an important role in a variety of research activities, from generating high-power lasers to investigating out-of-equilibrium coupled systems. This Letter presents our investigations of Hermitian coupling in arrays of lasers, where it is possible to control both the amplitude and phase of the coupling and generate artificial gauge fields. The Hermitian coupling is demonstrated in three laser array geometries: a square array of 100 lasers with controlled laser coupling for obtaining continuous control over the phase-locked state, a triangular array of 130 lasers with controlled chirality of the lasers, and a ring array of eight lasers with a controlled topological charge.
