Active electrode material in-conjunction with an electrolyte allows to expand the horizons of electrochemical properties and safety of Li-ion/Li-metal batteries. The role of electrolyte is pivotal in determining the performance metrics of rechargeable Li-based batteries. However, the unavoidable side-reactions imposed on the electrode active material and electrolyte due to the thermodynamic and kinetic conditions in a battery limits its performances. Electrolytes being ubiquitous for both the electrodes, a rational formulation containing a functional additive holds a great promise to tune the interfacial properties of electroactive material and to control the parasitic side reactions. Functional electrolyte additives are target specific, which serve the purpose of mitigating critical concerns related to material's properties, electrochemical performance, and safety of batteries scattered under different identities/chemistries. This review exclusively focuses on the significant impact of functional electrolyte additives on advancing the electrochemical performance, cycle-life, and safety of Li-ion/Li-metal batteries. The classification of additives and their mechanistic role is detailed on the basis of target-oriented actions involving film formation and its abnormal growth, capacity retention, overcharge/over-discharge, high-voltage, wide-temperature operation, acid and water contaminant, gas evolution, flammability, and aluminum corrosion. A perspective on the electrolyte and additive engineering considerate with the battery performances is detailed.

Aims: Several diuretic strategies, including furosemide iv boluses (FB) or continuous infusion (FC), are used in acute heart failure (AHF).
Methods And Results: We systematically searched phase 3 randomized clinical trials (RCTs) evaluating diuretic regimens in admitted AHF patients within 48 hours and irrespective of clinical stabilization. We calculated the odds ratio (OR) of FC or FB plus another diuretic (sequential nephron blockade, SNB) compared to FB alone on 24-hour weight loss (WL) and worsening renal function (WRF), with a random-effects model with inverse variance weighting.

Polar protic and aprotic solvents can effectively simulate the maturation of breast carcinoma cells. Herein, the influence of polar protic solvents (water and ethanol) and aprotic solvents (acetone and DMSO) on the properties of 3-(dimethylaminomethyl)-5-nitroindole (DAMNI) was investigated using density functional theory (DFT) computations. Thermodynamic parameters retrieved from the vibrational analysis indicated that the DAMNI's entropy, heat capacity, and enthalpy increased with rising temperature.

Proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) is regarded as the most promising technique for the sustainable production of green hydrogen due to its multiple advantages such as high working current density and high hydrogen purity. However, the anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) has a significant impact on the overall efficiency of the electrolytic water reaction due to its sluggish kinetics, which has prompted the search for catalysts possessing both high activity and durability. Iridium oxide exhibits excellent stability under acidic conditions but has poor catalytic activity, leading to its inability to meet the strict requirements of large-scale industrial applications.

Isovalent anion substitution has been shown to have a tremendous effect on the transport properties in lithium halide solid ionic conductors. Although sodium-ion solid state batteries based on chloride ionic conductors have recently gathered significant attention, investigations of anion substitution in sodium containing chlorides remain scarce. Here, we investigate the role of Br isoelectronic anion substitution in a perovskite-related compound with nominal composition of NaTaCl.

Epiphytic orchids have evolved specialized adaptive strategies, such as aerial roots with water-absorbing velamen tissues, to cope with water-scarce and nutrient-deficient habitats. Our previous study revealed that the aerial roots of the epiphytic orchid Phalaenopsis aphrodite lack a gravitropic response, raising the possibility that alternative tropic mechanisms may contribute to their adaptation. In this study, we examined the effects of light and moisture on aerial root growth in P.
