Pragmatic Clinical Trials in Plastic Surgery.

Plast Reconstr Surg

August 2025

Professor of Surgery, Section of Plastic Surgery, Department of Surgery, Michigan Medicine, Ann Arbor, MI.

The use of pragmatic clinical trials has been increasing within medical and surgical research departments but has not yet been widely implemented in plastic surgery. Pragmatic clinical trials (PCTs) are similar to randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in that they both randomize patients to treatments and follow them prospectively after treatment. However, pragmatic trials are less strict than RCTs in many ways: PCTs have fewer inclusion and exclusion criteria to facilitate the recruitment of representative samples, PCTs collect data during routine clinical care, and they commonly rely on subjective patient-reported outcomes.

We ask how autistic children encode and retrieve novel words and what drives individual differences.

Stage IV prostate cancer (PCa) refers to a disease that has metastasized beyond the prostate gland to distant sites, such as bones, visceral organs, or non-regional lymph nodes. While early attempts at curative therapy were occasionally made in oligometastatic cases, current guidelines uniformly recommend palliative-intent management once true metastatic spread is confirmed. Over the past decade, treatment paradigms have shifted from androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) monotherapy to earlier intensification with combination regimens including chemo-hormonal therapy and next-generation hormonal agents to improve survival and quality of life (QoL).

This study investigates how perceived value, environmental sustainability awareness, social identity, and perceived government support shape the public's willingness to participate in and financially support industrial heritage conservation. Particular attention is given to the mediating role of place attachment.
