Background: Preeclampsia (PE) is a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy, characterized by high blood pressure (≥ 140/90 mmHg), proteinuria, and edema after 20 weeks of gestation. Affecting 3-10% of pregnancies globally, PE is a leading cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality.
Materials And Methods: This case-control study involved 105 pregnant women in their third trimester (28-40 weeks), divided into three groups: 35 normotensive controls, 35 with mild preeclampsia, and 35 with severe preeclampsia. Serum ceruloplasmin levels were measured using a turbidimetry method on a Biosystem BA400 analyzer. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software, with values < 0.05 considered statistically significant.
Results: The study found significantly higher ceruloplasmin levels in preeclamptic women compared to the control group. Normotensive women had mean ceruloplasmin levels of 84.53 ± 7.33 mg/dl, while women with mild and severe preeclampsia had levels of 107.44 ± 7.37 mg/dl and 135.42 ± 10.73 mg/dl, respectively. The differences were statistically significant ( < 0.00001).
Conclusion: Elevated serum ceruloplasmin levels were strongly associated with the severity of preeclampsia. Early detection of elevated levels may help in diagnosing and managing preeclampsia, potentially reducing maternal and fetal complications.

A 37-year-old female was hospitalized for acute liver injury, presenting a diagnostic challenge that ultimately led to a diagnosis of alcohol-associated steatohepatitis (ASH). Steatohepatitis is a state of liver inflammation with fat accumulation and has several potential etiologies, including metabolic dysfunction-associated, alcohol-associated, drug-induced, autoimmune, and viral causes. A definitive diagnosis often requires a thorough clinical history, laboratory and imaging studies, and, in some cases, a liver biopsy.

Background: This study aimed to assess the associations of roxadustat with changes in serum trace element levels and with hypothyroidism in hemodialysis (HD) patients.
Methods: A total of 34 patients on HD who received weekly doses of darbepoetin-α or a continuous erythropoietin receptor activator once every 2 or 4 weeks were switched to roxadustat (70 mg, three times weekly). Levels of biomarkers for erythropoiesis and iron metabolism, trace elements (copper, zinc, and selenium), ceruloplasmin, and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free-triiodothyronine (T3), and free-tetraiodothyronine (T4) were measured in blood samples collected before the HD session on days 0 (switch to roxadustat treatment), 28, and 56.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of different strains on the blood proteinase-inhibitor system and structural changes in the renal parenchyma during the pathogenesis of renal tuberculosis in a rabbit model.
Methods: Renal tuberculosis was modeled on 60 male Soviet Chinchilla rabbits. The susceptible virulent strain H37Rv (Euro-American lineage, group 1) and the low-lethal multidrug-resistant strain 5582 (Beijing Central Asian/Russian cluster; group 2) were injected into the cortex of the lower pole of the left kidney.
