Article Abstract

Four new hybrid chloroantimonates(III) and chlorobismuthates(III) with halogen bond-linked I, (Hbpe){[MCl](I)} (M = Sb(III) (1); M = Bi(III) (2); bpe = 1,2-bis(4-pyridil)ethane) and (Hbpp){[MCl](I)} (M = Sb(III) (3); M = Bi(III) (4); bpp = 1,3-bis(4-pyridil)propane), were synthesized a reaction between SbO/BiO, I and the corresponding bis(pyridines) in HCl. Despite sharing the same formulae of supramolecular anionic parts, they showed significant structural diversity, revealing three different structural types. Features of the halogen bond in 1-4 were examined theoretical methods.

The first chrorobismuthate(III) supramolecular hybrids with halogen-bond-linked I, (Py(CH)Py){[BiCl](I)} () and (Py(CH)Py){[BiCl](I)} (), were synthesized via the reaction between BiO, I, and salts of the corresponding cations in HCl. The compounds featured one- and two-dimensional (2D) supramolecular motifs built by I···Cl contacts; in the case of , Bi(III) is pentacoordinated due to the lone pair activity, which also interacted with I pi-orbitals, as confirmed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Both complexes exhibited moderate thermal stabilities and relatively narrow optical band gaps.

Chloroquine phosphate (CQP) has been suggested as an important and effective clinical reliever medication for the 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19). Nevertheless, its excessive use will inevitably cause irreparable damage to the entire ecosystem, thereby posing a considerable environmental safety concern. Hence, the development of highly-efficient methods of removing CQP from water pollution sources, effluents from hospitals and pharmaceutical factories is significant.

Synthesis of framework materials possessing specific spatial structures or containing functional ligands has attracted tremendous attention. Herein, a halogen hydrogen-bonded organic framework (XHOF) is fabricated by using Cl ions as central connection nodes to connect organic ligands, 7,7,8,8-tetraaminoquinodimethane (TAQ), by forming a Cl···H hydrogen bond structure. Unlike metallic node-linked MOFs, covalent bond-linked COFs, and intermolecular hydrogen bond-linked HOFs, XHOFs represent a different kind of crystalline framework.
