Cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of mortality, highlighting the critical need for novel therapeutic strategies. RNA-based therapeutics, including siRNA and mRNA, offer promising approaches for cardiac diseases, yet their clinical application is limited by low heart specificity and suboptimal delivery methods. Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) are widely used for RNA delivery but often accumulate in non-cardiac tissues, reducing their effectiveness.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading global cause of morbidity and mortality, largely driven by atherosclerosis, a chronic inflammatory process involving lipids and immune cells. Although traditional lipid biomarkers such as low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) are well-established in CVD risk stratification, the interplay between cytokines, chemokines, growth factors (CCGFs), lipid metabolism, and hematological parameters in non-cardiac populations remains underexplored. We investigated associations between plasma cytokines and lipid-related biomarkers and their relationships with circulating blood cell counts in a cohort of 164 essentially healthy adults aged 18-44 years.

Background And Aims: The best management approach for renin-angiotensin system (RAS) inhibitor use before surgery is controversial. Some studies have suggested that continuation could increase the risk of clinically significant peri-operative hypotension and, thus, organ injury. By contrast, others believe that withholding them significantly increases the risk of severe hypertension and heart failure.

Background: The sex-specific association between serum uric acid (SUA) levels and postoperative outcomes in elective non-cardiac surgery remains unclear. This study aimed to identify sex-specific SUA thresholds and their impact on short- and long-term outcomes.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of 295,267 patients (2012-2021) undergoing non-cardiac surgery was conducted.

Acute heart failure in non-cardiac surgery.

More than 64 million people worldwide have heart failure (HF), and these numbers are expected to rise. Acute HF (AHF) is the leading cause of hospitalization in patients over 65 years old and is linked to high mortality and readmission rates. AHF may also be a frequent complication in patients hospitalized for other medical reasons as well as after cardiac or non-cardiac surgery.
