Aerococcus viridans, an emerging pathogen, is responsible for the recent increase in cases of bovine mastitis. However, its specific effects on mastitis remain largely unexplored. In this study, we examined the correlation between A. viridans-induced mastitis infections and somatic cell counts (SCCs), and characteristics of A. viridans isolates from bovine mastitis milk. Among 1774 mastitis milk samples collected between 2016 and 2021 in South Korea, 69 (3.9%) A. viridans isolates were obtained. Mastitis milk samples containing A. viridans exhibited significantly higher SCCs than did non-mastitis samples. Most isolates (80.5%) were associated with subclinical mastitis (200-1200 × 10 cells/mL), whereas 19.5% were associated with clinical mastitis (> 1.2 × 10⁶ cells/mL). In pulsed-field gel electrophoresis analysis, A. viridans isolates displayed substantial genetic diversity, with no dominant clones identified. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing revealed high resistance rates to ceftiofur (46.4%) and oxacillin + 2% NaCl (44.9%) among β-lactams, followed by tetracycline (36.2%) and erythromycin (10.1%), with 21.7% isolates being multidrug-resistant. Fifty-four isolates (78.3%) were able to form biofilms, with all recent isolates being biofilm-positive, in contrast to several earlier non-producers. Our findings suggest the necessity for targeted management strategies and continuous monitoring for mitigating A. viridans-induced mastitis in dairy cows.

Objective: To characterize the conjunctival bacterial flora of laboratory-housed New Zealand White (NZW) rabbits using conventional culture techniques and quantitative bacterial analysis.
Animals Studied: This experimental study involved the collection of conjunctival fornix samples from 24 eyes of 12 healthy laboratory-housed NZW rabbits.
Procedures: Conjunctival samples were obtained using sterile dry swabs and processed using standard microbiological techniques.
Background Infective endocarditis (IE) is a life-threatening infection of the endocardial surface, most commonly affecting native or prosthetic valves and intracardiac devices. Despite advancements in diagnosis and treatment, IE continues to carry a high mortality risk. Blood cultures remain a cornerstone of diagnosis, typically yielding positive results and enabling identification of the causative organisms.

Five previously healthy horses in Korea, including a 19-year-old mixed-breed gelding, a 16-year-old mixed-breed mare, a 13-year-old Thoroughbred gelding, a 12-year-old Belgian warmblood mare, and a 12-year-old Andalusian mare, developed subcutaneous abscesses in the left neck after receiving intramuscular vaccination without prior skin disinfection. The vaccination used was Equivac® 2 in1, containing toxoid and cell-free extract. Within one week, the horses developed localised swelling and/or abscessation at the injection site.

Background: The pathogenesis of infective endocarditis can cause a range of extracardiac complications. Delayed diagnosis may result in catastrophic embolic sequelae. Streptococcus parasanguinis is a pathogen that insidiously causes infective endocarditis and has rarely been associated with intracerebral mycotic aneurysms in contemporary medical literature.
