Multicellular organisms generate organizational complexity through morphogenesis, in which mechanical forces orchestrate the movements and deformations of cells and tissues, while chemical signals regulate the molecular events that generate and coordinate these forces. One common denominator that is critical both for mechanics and biochemistry is material property. Material properties define how materials deform or rearrange under applied forces, and how rapidly molecules interact or spread in space and time.

Constipation is a common gastrointestinal disorder characterized by infrequent and difficult bowel movements, hard stool consistency, and delayed intestinal transit. The present study evaluated the phytochemical profile and physiological effects of the aqueous extract of beetroot leaves (AEBL) in a rat model of Loperamide (LOP)-induced constipation. Thirty-six male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to six groups (n = 6): two controls (normal and constipated) and four constipated groups receiving either increasing doses of AEBL (100, 200, or 400 mg/kg, b.

Tibia-Fibula Relative Motion During Gait Cycle by 2D-3D Registration.

J Orthop Res

September 2025

Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, Chaoyang District, China.

Injuries to the distal tibiofibular joint are often associated with ankle fractures, sports-related injuries, or instability, whereas proximal tibiofibular joint injuries are more commonly present with lateral- or posterolateral-compartment lesions of the knee. These conditions may be related to the relative motion between the tibia and fibula; however, precise movement patterns have yet to be fully elucidated. This study analyzes the relative motion of the tibia and fibula in 16 healthy adults (32 bones; 8 males and 8 females) throughout a normal gait cycle.

Objective: This study aimed to probe the role of Shenling Baizhu powder (SLBZP) in inhibiting breast cancer (BC) lung metastasis, focusing on epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and ferroptosis.

Methods: BC 4T1 cells were treated with low (3.13 µg/mL) and high (12.

Self-supervised representation learning with continuous training data improves the feel and performance of myoelectric control.

Comput Biol Med

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, E3B 5A3, NB, Canada.

Pattern recognition-based myoelectric control is traditionally trained with static or ramp contractions, but this fails to capture the dynamic nature of real-world movements. This study investigated the benefits of training classifiers with continuous dynamic data, encompassing transitions between various movement classes. We employed both conventional (LDA) and deep learning (LSTM) classifiers, comparing their performance when trained with ramp data, continuous dynamic data, and an LSTM pre-trained with a self-supervised learning technique (VICReg).
