With the growing global older population and the impact of loneliness and social isolation in this group, it is imperative to study resources to improve social connectedness. Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered platforms are an emerging technology being utilized for this purpose. This systematic review investigated the impact of AI interventions on loneliness and social isolation in older adults. Eighteen studies were included in this systematic review. Conversational AI technology played a role in improving numerous areas that are known to increase social connectedness. Those areas included self and shared identity, social integration, usability and usefulness, social support, self-efficacy, and health outcomes. While some participants enjoyed the AI interaction, sensed relationships developed, and felt the AI was useful, others would like conversational AIs and AI chatbots to be more human-like and conversations to have more depth and provide help and information gathering more targeted to their needs.

Background And Objectives: Explore whether community social capital measures (system of resources available to individuals through community engagement) are related to surgical outcomes among intracranial tumor patients.
Methods: Adults who underwent resection at a single medical center for intracranial tumor was identified and their zip codes were matched to three variables derived from the Social Capital Atlas: economic connectedness, volunteering rate, and civic organizations. The economic connectedness score quantifies the degree to which low-income and high-income community members are friends with each other, the volunteering rate is defined as the proportion of a given community engaged in community organizations and the civic organization score is defined as the number of local civic organizations within a given community.

Background: Rates of loneliness have risen sharply since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, largely due to disruptions in social relationships and daily routines, with college students experiencing some of the greatest increases. While prevention programs targeting loneliness have been developed, their success has been limited. One promising approach may lie in enhancing the quality of existing relationships rather than simply increasing social interactions during periods of acute loneliness.

Background: Dietary patterns rich in plant foods have been broadly associated with a lower risk of depression due to the profile of bioactive components related to positive physical and neurological mechanisms of effect. Yet vegans and vegetarians are reported to experience higher depressive symptoms, a profile of psychological and physiological symptoms that indicate poor mental health. The role of eating behaviors within sociocultural contexts associated with dietary intake is one aspect of psychological functioning that has received limited attention.
