Article Abstract

: Patient-specific osteosynthesis (PSO) plates, in combination with virtual surgical planning (VSP), have significantly improved the accuracy of orthognathic surgery. This study aimed to compare the surgical accuracy of two-plate versus four-plate fixation methods in Le Fort I osteotomies using PSO. : A retrospective cohort study was conducted on 21 patients who underwent maxilla-first bimaxillary surgery at a single centre in 2024. Eight patients received two-plate fixation, while thirteen received four-plate fixation. All surgeries were planned using VSP. Postoperative cone beam computed tomography scans were used to assess the accuracy of maxillary positioning by comparing the planned versus achieved outcomes in terms of translation and rotation. : Both fixation methods yielded comparable results in maxillary positioning, with no significant differences observed between the two groups regarding translational or rotational deviations. The two-plate PSO approach demonstrated practical benefits, including reduced material usage and the potential for smaller surgical incisions, without compromising surgical accuracy. : Two-plate PSO fixation is a viable alternative to the traditional four-plate method for Le Fort I osteotomies, offering similar accuracy with potential procedural advantages. While these findings support broader clinical adoption, further research is warranted to confirm the results in larger cohorts and to investigate biomechanical considerations.

Background: Isolated sustentaculum tali fractures among pediatric cohorts represent an exceedingly uncommon entity (<1% of all calcaneal fractures), with limited published evidence regarding operative intervention in prepubescent patients. Diagnostic complexities emerge from radiographically indiscernible fracture patterns, mandating cross-sectional imaging modalities. This case study documents the youngest reported patient (7-year-old female) and introduces the first comprehensive morphometric analysis of fracture characteristics and clinical outcomes following surgical management via open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) utilizing Kirschner wire (K-wire) stabilization.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of a fully 3D planned digital workflow for bimaxillary osteotomies, utilizing patient-specific osteotomy and drill guides (PSDOG) and osteosynthesis implants (PSOI), within a maxilla-first approach. Emphasis was placed on the accuracy of guided mandibular positioning. This retrospective study included 30 patients undergoing bimaxillary orthognathic surgery [bimaxillary PSDOG/PSOI (Group 1; n = 11) versus maxillary PSDOG/PSOI (Group 2; n = 19)].

Advancements in fracture fixation have significantly reshaped orthopedic trauma management by improving mechanical stability and promoting biological healing. This retrospective observational study assessed clinical and biomechanical outcomes in 500 patients who underwent surgical fixation for radiologically confirmed fractures. Patients were categorized into two groups: Group A received conventional fixation methods (e.

Aim: Periprosthetic distal femoral fractures present significant challenges in management due to high morbidity and mortality rates. We discuss the treatment options based on fracture pattern, location and status of the prosthesis.

Methods: Surgical treatment is favored over nonoperative management to enable early mobilization and prevent complications.

Background: Stable intertrochanteric fractures of the hip are common injuries, particularly among the elderly population. Effective surgical intervention is crucial for improving patient outcomes and recovery. Two widely used fixation techniques are the Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS) and Proximal Femoral Nailing (PFN).
