Spent hemp biomass (SHB) is the byproduct of the cannabinoid extraction from hemp. Despite having an excellent nutritional profile, it cannot legally be used as a feed ingredient in livestock mainly due to the presence of Δ-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ-THC), which could accumulate in animal products, posing a risk for consumers. This study investigated the accumulation and clearance of cannabinoids in milk and tissues of dairy cows fed SHB and the risk for people consuming the milk from those cows. Using UHPLC-MS/MS, we detected cannabinoids in the tissues and milk of dairy cows fed SHB, with less than 1% transfer of cannabinoids in the milk. A high accumulation of Δ-THC was detected in the adipose tissue. Twelve days after SHB withdrawal, Δ-THC in milk was undetectable, but it remained detectable in the adipose tissue until 30 days after SHB withdrawal. CBD and CBD-acid (CBDA) were detectable in the plasma of cows after calving (i.e., 90 days after SHB withdrawal). When consuming milk from cows fed SHB, the total THC intake exceeded the acute reference dose of 1 μg/kg BW. However, 2 weeks of SHB withdrawal from the diet of the cows eliminates any risk of ingesting Δ-THC by consuming the milk from those cows.

This study developed a vegan chocolate spread using spray-dried plant-based milk powders (soy, lentil, and rice), fortified with nano-liposomal vitamin D3 and an oleogel-balanced omega fatty acid to enhance nutritional quality. The plant-based milk powders exhibited high protein (up to 26.8% in soy), fiber, and micronutrients.

Sheep milk has gained increasing attention for its compositional similarity to human milk and its abundance of bioactive compounds with nutritional and therapeutic potential. It is rich in proteins, essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, immunoglobulins, and hormones, as well as peptides and oligosaccharides with antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and immune-modulatory effects. Despite these benefits, the literature remains fragmented, with limited integration of data on the mechanisms by which these components influence health outcomes, and few comprehensive comparisons with other mammalian milks.

Goat milk is prized for its nutritional value, but the illegal addition of δ-decanolactone to enhance flavor poses risks to product integrity and safety. This study employed a tripartite multi-omics framework integrating metabolomics, lipidomics, and proteomics, combined with FTIR and CLSM to systematically elucidate the multifaceted effects of δ-decanolactone on goat milk. Chemometric and bioinformatic pipelines identified dysregulated molecules and pathways, while molecular docking validated interactions with key targets.
